My husband of 35 odd years and myself have sold the old campa trainer and purchased a little pop top van. We have travelled mostly over Western Qld and N.T. but lately have been living in Cairns and love the National Parks Camping areas. Love to camp in the free roadside areas with other travellers. Mostly like it when a campfire can be lit. Have heard about a book or booklet called Camp4 or similar re free stops on the highways. Where can this be purchased?
I Bought one in a Newsagent, and I guess most Camping stores would have them, Try BFC at 175 Mulgrave Road,
Pauline......just by chance was your Maiden name Porters from around the Tumbarumba area......????

Hi ian & Pauline, the book that you are after is called "camps australia wide 4" it is currently in its fourth edition, hence the "4", it is of course the free and low cost campers bible, my wife and I ( married 30 years come january next) travel regularly and would never leave without out it, the cost of caravan parks or rv resorts, as some paddocks like to call themselves, is absolutely astronomical and for us pensioners, prohibitive over long periods, and besides we dont like the types of drongoes that frequent these areas, we prefer, like you, to camp under a gum tree with a fire and a glass (or 3) of whiskey or some other pain depressant, not next to a toilet block, but I digress, the book is freely available in good bookshops, from memory I think it was about the $70.00 mark ( dont quote me on that) sounds dear but when you consider that the average park is now in the $30 - $40 a night mark, some a lot more, that equates to about 2 nights free kip, and the book contains not only detailed instructions on how to get to the camp but also pictures of what it looks like. and G.P.S. positions which you can set in your in car navigator( or as I like to call it "nagging nancy"), best money I ever spent, this is my third book now and I will buy the next one as well. you can preview on their website at www.campsaustraliawide.com.au, there you will see not only what it looks like but you can download updates as well. happy trails, Dave

I think you have received plenty of info as to where you can get the Camps 4 book. One other point to remember, you can access their website (details on the front of their book) and update site information each month. This is improtant if you are considering free camp sites, as some sites in the book have changed and now no longer available for free camping.
