Pensioners, how do they survive? well a few that I know do very well, look at me; free medical, dental, psychiatrist.... GST free cars every 2 years, I'm not complaining - much. Some are doing it really tough, most did not have access to super schemes, most do not have the education to make any sense of the rules and hubris thrown at them by Centrelink who I firmly believe go out of their way to make things difficult. And why do our PM's keep trying to drag their religious beliefs into it??? Scared of not getting any donations from the Eclesiastical Corps presumably.... C'mon let rip...

I normally keep my political views to myself, but this site has my interest - maybe like minds, and all that.
I take the position of "cannot beat them" but use the system to my advantage where possible. To do this, one MUST know the system. Most do not spend the time to get to know.
I have always wondered about a couple of parts of our political system.
Why do we need a Senate (Qld does not have one) - we elect a mob to run the joint, let them do it, and vote em in/out the next time - How much money would that little adjustment save us tax payers
Why do we need a State Govn - we have Councils, elected people close to our living and working lives - Just have the "Chair's" gather together and decide direction of the state, as a group - how much money would that save - and how close to the real people would they be, when making decisions
Most large business's are doing just that - reducing the infrastructure between the Top and the "coal face"
The above should be read with the following bit of knowledge - Our govn started this way - the local "****y" was elected (no parties then), and did the job for his community.
Right now I am trying every angle I can find to get a pension, get some of my money back.

There does seem to be a very strong push to get rid of State govt's.... I think that a few things now state controlled should be done by the feds. Road rules, driving licences, Education & health, and power & water supply for a start. Think of the savings to the taxpayers if we could eliminate all the interstate duck shoving.... You are spot on, there are just to many beaureacrats in the system to allow any real efficiency....Was it Mary Watts (James Watts wife) who said ( in a broad scots brouge) "Ock Eye James, tis the machine with the least moving parts is the most efficient"

I think it was judge john deed who said "hang em all and let god sort em out", local councils are just big frogs in little ponds, bent on self importance and power, go to a council meeting and you will see, I have many times, state government tottaly useless and a waste of money, federal well they sit only part time, why do we even have a full party sitting in parliament who's only reason for existance is to "oppose" the current leadership, how archaic is that, all these peanuts are a waste of taxpayers money, when was the last time you seen an m.p. come from the rank and file, these people have no idea of what is going on in the real world, my god we have single and married pensioners who are eating dogfood to survive they cant afford to eat after paying the bills, I know because I take food to three living on my street, I wish I could help more, we have some of the worst homeless numbers in relation to population size in the world, our rivers are stuffed our economy is down the gurgler, even though we are the richest country in minerals and oils, in the world, and yet we sell it to the conglomerates at a pittance, our illustious pollies admit they couldnt live on the single pension, the mongrels are sitting on a 22 billion dollar surplus, and they wont give the singles another cent, their wages rose last financial year 15.5% above the current c.p.i. and of course the benefits (car, travel, phone, office, secretary, home allowance, living away from home allowance,) also jumped way beyond the norm. our current illustious P.M. has a multi millionaire for a wife, guess who is in control of the country, the people that you see in the gov. do not run the country of course, it is the behind the scenes personell, what our pollies say in public is not the current policies, that is decided by the "power" people, the current system is geared only to financial gain, not peoples wellbeing, it was Paul keating who said, " the best way to see darwin is at 30,000 feet on the way to france". Are you following whats happening in Perth elections - both funny and interesting. I would like to see Federal laws re, roads,health,education,law,transport etc. etc. Seems silly that crossing borders speed limits change!!! If each state pooled resources re roads, we might be able to have first grade national highway. And fancy they are arguuing re responsibility re the demise of our great river the Murray!!!!

Basil has too many controversial policies to be considered for such high office as PM. I'm too racially extreme, if you thought Hitler was a nutter you don't know me... Besides I don't think I could get the trains to run on time, however, my BRING BACK THE TRAMS policy for Sydney may score me a few votes. Along with my sack all the state councils policy. I do think I would have to look closely at the mandatory introduction of hours at the beach when you are allowed into the water and mandatory neck to knee attire while on the beach would curb crimes of lust & passion on Bondi in particular.... Also I would question why we have to pay around 70 cents/Ltr for natural gas when we sell it overseas for around 5 cents/ltr. I would also think a good idea would be to send all existing politicians to a yet to beconstructed "Tent City" at say Maralinga just to reeducate them, get them to see life at the "coal face"... Na do What I do. I refuse to vote and I refuse to pay the fine. I said to the magistrate, "Your Honour, how could you reasonably expect anyone to vote when the people you are voting for have a vested interest, are all petty criminals and Arthur Daley types?" and you know what after giving me a lecture about my refusing to exercise MY democratic rights, he dismissed the charge!!!! Don't VOTE for me unless you want a return to common sense and extreme ideology....

Why is it that there are so many of us that think alike about how this beautiful country is run? I wonder what swung voters away from the previous Federal Govt-was it the personality or the politics? What is desparately needed is a really strong leader - like ?? old Bob Menzies. Gosh I cant recall anyone else in over 40 years of voting?? Would it help if voting wasn't compulsory then there would be more of a conscious vote by people with intelligence, not rabble types who are easily swayed. I vote for ANY independent, provided they have not previously linked themselves to a party.
Rational - if the vote was declared where the majority was independent, then the "parties" would need to gather support from the Independent ranks to obtain control. Independents need your vote to remain there, and the parties need them - consider the power and dependance of your vote for them
I will add, the bastards have seen this coming, thats why the voting papers have above the line and below - Independent is below the line, and more chance of being a null vote

Our new Premier the garbo and admitted pot smoker has the starring role and everyday the co stars are up to something that gets them hired and fired then in some cases hired again.

I agree totally, but even Bob "it is my melancholy duty" Menzies had problems. I think that today its the fact that the media are so more "intrusive" and we only in the last say 20 odd years have started to see the real facts of the behind the scenes "action". I reckon the problems are realy the parties themselves, the bills that are put up before parliament whenever you get a good look at them are all designed to only strengthen the party line, rarely do they have any impact for the good of society, these days it's more along the lines of subjugating the proletareat masses with spin. Now tell me why do Politicians say everything twice, everything twice? Then of course we are much smarter than the average pollie as we have had some experience in the real world, we all know what it's like to have to live from week to week, these new breed of pollies have to my way of thinking no actual skills to do the job. The start off straight out of an arts degree in some soft option subject then become an indentured slave to some politician who wants a young woman or bloke in his office and sleaze their way onto the ballot paper... If we had no parties and just independants who were elected because they were known in their community for their charritable efforts and they were duly elected then maybe we would stand a fighting chance.... Of course us Grey Nomads and Baby Boomers don't help because we have enough brains to see what is really going on and are a major force to contend with in the community...
