I settle the sale of my home on 17 December and to my great surprise have decided against towing a 5th wheeler at all. What a wimp
After a visit to the Expo at Batemans Bay last Friday to have a look at the only motorhome that was of interest to me, I had a test drive of the Avan 23ft Ovation M3 Lowline Class B and was hooked! It's a Fiat Ducato three litre turbo-diesel and was so comfortable and so easy to drive that I paid a deposit and will pick it up at Avan Bombaderry on the same day as settlement. Will be hiding over school hols on a eighbour's acreage (please. Telstra, let there be a signal!) heading West.(WA).
One of the nice things about NSW is taxes and stamp duty (not) but it's worth it to keep my SUE number plates which I've had for 24 years.
So, finally, (and I dislike the term since the media got hold of it) I will become a full-time, genuine, bona fide, not so "grey nomad".
Mmmmmm, life is sooooo good! Cheers

Good on you, Sue. As a born and bred West Australian, I'm always interested to see you eastern staters heading in our direction. With the price of iron ore dropping, we need the tourist dollar! This is a little plug for a place you may go past, but which is really worth a visit. Guilderton (also known as Moore River) is about an hour or so's drive north of Perth. Lovely little beachside caravan park at the mouth of the Moore River. Sleepy little place, but has a lovely feel to it. In fact, I'm heading up there on Dec. 8 on first outing with brand new Jayco Flamingo (putting up the annexe first time may well prove to be what my naval mate calls "character building"!) Cheers

Well done Sue, go girl. I have just started on the road, coromal van and Xtrail, having a ball, only problem I have found is that some ,free places are not free anymore or open to staying over night. eg. Wyllie park, Petrie Qld, great place, right on river, but arrived there, closes 6pm until 8 am, Bummer. Apparently too many staying sort of permanent. We need to check up on these. Also, dogs, a lot of park owners don't like our little mites ohhhhhhhhhhh how could they not... But... For all who reads this, there is a magic place just about 15 ks south of Ballina qld. Called Wardell, just a few k's off the highway, rain forest gardens, nice owners, clean, even soft soap and paper towels in loo. And I could have Mollie . I am a solo gn, and the rates are for a double, as usual, but they recognised this and charged me accordingly. $15 for unpowered site, not too bad. Hopefully, if all goes to plan I will be in WA 2009. Happy travels. Kind regards Barb..........

Sue, you should be very happy with the Ducato 3 ltr turbo diesel. They are reputed to be the creme de la creme of power plants. The new home sounds nice, Avan does a good job.....Try it out on the hills around Berry and Gerroa, hey even better try to get it on the Commerong Is punt and spend a day out at the beach! I'm envious - enjoy!

Gosh, thank you everyone. A direct lighting hit in Bodalla the other Saturday left me "internetless" for a week. After 11 years this had a serious impact on my already fragile emotional state. Others lost phone lines, computers and like me ADSL modems but my phone disconnects on 16th so I threw the modem in the bin and tried to find somewhere to connect wirelessly (I live in a black spot). Am just catching up on stuff. Basil, I will be driving around Berry on the way back from Avan but fancy the Comerong Is punt still running! I used to holiday on Comerong (down from Sydney) when I was 16 or 17. I think the family name may have Syme but am not sure. That's where I learned to play euchre and I remember catching a lot of blackfish. What a beautiful place is was. Their place used to look across at Greenwell Point. Have often wondered what it's like now. I swear as I get older the world get's smaller. Anyway will have lot of pics when I pick up in two weeks..am starting to tremble with excitement.... cheers

Hey yes the Commerong Is punt....We were on it a few years ago and the puntmistress came running out of her "control room" screaming something about taking on water..... anyway as we pulled up very high and dry on the nowra side the back slid under the water and the whole thing sank.... I hope the lightning didn't hit the "Big Cheese"...... waste of a lighttening bolt... We are off to Tathra on Wednesday, if you see an old fogie driving around in anew Kia Sorento it will be moi....Maybe you could bring your dog down to round up Gracie?
