Any one having unsolicited pop ups or drop downs appearing while on the forum .
Had this problem on a fishing forum I belong to and it turned out the site security had been hacked into and had to reformat parts of the system .
Who ever controlls this site may want to check it out happening more often that one would expect with all the security filters on my system and hopefully on the site

Wouldn't mind so much if I won something I could use at my age, an hour with Cindy having a massage with a happy ending is really a waste of mine and Cindy's time .
This is the second time I've won in as many weeks no wonder I'm worn out

These anoying popups don't seem to effect me. If you are using Internet explorer 7 try a left click on "TOOLS" and check the status of the inbuilt popup blocker, left click to turn it on, if its off... Then you get a message in a line that appears top of your window when a popup is trying to popup asking if you want the popup to popup or not. I have to allow popups in some situations eg when I'm doing Banking online...

I haven't had any pop ups here either but have pop up setting set to block. If I click on a link sometimes it asks me to allow the pop up to appear then I can choose whether to continue. Some websites as Basil said eg banking I have set a special allow pop up to gain access. It might depend on individuals computer set ups.

All that's in the block mode but still coming through when accessing this forum. Not taking the risk that there's a hacker in the system planting a virus so will give it a miss for awhile see ya later

Dave, somewhere in your "profile" or "settings" there is a box to tick that says "stay logged in". Try ticking that, of course if you are not actally logged on the system just "holds' a place for you....That may help

hang in there Dave, try Basil's advice, I agree somewhere in there you should get a "remember my password" popup if you tick that it should just come up automatically
if you allow the pass word to be shown it's not going to hurt anything because you dont have any "identifying" information on here I.E. phone numbers, home address or banking details and thats all the information miners and resellers are after
wombat I think the one popup at the top of the screen is actually caled a "banner ad" it is not strictly speaking a popup and as such is not a hackers method of gaining knowledge, I think if you just ignore it then all will be fine

Sorry everybody. Have been away for a few days. Will check into your pop-up concerns. However, you should be aware that we get the forum page service supplied to us from another organisation, and we simply moderate the content and make new topic listings as required. I am confident security is not an issue Wombat as we have been using this forum service for a number of years now and have had no problems reported to us. Nonetheless, I completely understand your concerns and will seek the appropriate reassurances. As for 'inappropriate' pop-up messages, again I understand your concerns. This, I suspect, is part of the price we pay for having a free forum page supplied to us. I will see if these pop-ups can be changed or, if not, it may be time we considered creating our own forum page and having complete control over what appears there. Apologies once again for not getting back to you sooner. Should have more news in the next couple of days.

well Dave, that's the limit of my knowledge mate as I too am on adsl and explorer 7, Basil is far more knowledgeable than I on these things
lady of the realm, we of course forgive you as you have done no wrong, you too have a life away from the website as do we all, you do a fantastic job and are to be commended we are not attacking you, god help anyone that does
the "pop up hackers" I think are using new weaponry, I am getting unsolicited offers in my email account offering all sorts of things from helping me in private departments to university degrees unearned, Basil I am now a bachelor of physics dont you know, and it only cost me ten dollars, so a little respect if you please LOL!!!
once microsoft and other spycatchers catch up their days are numbered but until then it may be a question of time??? not that I know anything about these things

Ok.... not good news... I'd suspect a virus or some malware, spyware etc has found a way to get onto your system. Slowed speed generally indicates some other activity taking place on your machine especially if it is net related. I'd try downloading this software and installing and updating both then restart your PC and THEN let both do a scan. The Glarysoft has a "One click does all" function. Then correct all the faults that are found....If a virus is found put it into the vault then delete it and do a wipe of your free drive space. http://www.glarysoft.com/gu.html?tag=download and: http://www.download.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-Free-Edition/3000-2239_4-10320142.html?part=dl-AVGAntiVir&subj=dl&tag=button
Ok if that does not fix your problem then it could be your ISP, Telstra could also have you routed over a downgraded line to the exchange, or you could still have a "nondeclared" virus and you may need to rebuild your pc, ie format your had drive and start over.

G'day Sir Dave, My Queen Jenny (Ozziebushfolk) asked me to have a read of this particular thread, and see if there was anything I might be able to suggest to help fellow GN's get rid of these very annoying intrusions into one's browsing. The one important thing to remember is that those of us that are on the road, need to keep their 'Download' times to an acceptable level in order to keep within the ISP's monthly allowances. Banner, Flash, Video and various other advertising media, significantly reduce ones web page opening speed, and conversely, increase the actual download time of a web pages that carry this type of advertising media. Not the sort of stuff one needs to have forced into ones eyeballs, particularly if we are on a limited/tight ISP budget. My suggestion is to take a look at what is on offer at this website:- http://www.adblockpro.com/ It has a 30 day FREE Trial period before it expires or ask for a very reasonable payment for the program, the cost of which will be saved by the incredible amount of time/money saved when opening up faster loading web pages, and it will definitely get rid of that banner add that is causing so much annoyance at the top of this page. My apologies for such a long input but hope the above will be useful. PS; I am in no way affiliated with the suggested company, I am only a very satisfied customer.
Best regards always,
Dave (Palebushman)
