We are wanting to do the great ocean road in January and would like feedback on the availability of powered sites, if we can't book too far in advance and more importantly on the parks to stay and to avoid. 2 grey nomads no kids no pets. We are leaving Cairns mid December.

Hi Patricia here is a web sit to check out if you havnt allready you can have a look at each park individually www.greatoceanrd.org.au then click on information the best parks down that way would be the top tourist parks and Big 4 this is their busiest time of the year though school hols so might pay to call couple of days in advance to check availability. chezgo

hi dianne the book is called "camps australia wide" and it is currently in its fourth edition, fifth coming out in january a free camp which is reasonably central to the great ocean road is in the beech forest and it is called "dandos campground" accesible by van and quite nice should suit you pretty right now chappy, powered sites are plentifull along here, we stayed at lorne for two nights, this park is split each side of the highway, there is an eastern side and a western side, we stayed on the eastern side right up against a babbling brook, in amongst beautifull oak trees, easy walk to the Iga, right on the corner, maybe 500 yards away, king parrots abound as well as frogs at night and kangaroos and all sorts of critters, easy walk to the town centre, coffee, scones, croisants, pies, pastys, whatever you desire we also stayed at apollo bay, great park there as well, port cambell has a good one, allow about a week to "do it justice" plan to stay in lorne for say, two nights at least, take a look at the rainforest and waterfalls in the otways national park, do the otway fly from here, sort of "hang around cape otway for a couple of days, plenty of little quirky caravan parks right alongside the ocean along here if you plan to take in the jewels that I have just described, and there are plenty more that I wont describe, let you find them yourself, much better that way, and if you have a time limiting factor then use this as a guide and plan your stay accordingly, I would book ahead as january is a busy time for the ocean road. word to the wise, WATCH THE TRUCKS, they are not sight seeing great trip in front of you, hope you enjoy our little treasure
