Is there any one out there that have had gas alarms fitted to there caravan or motorhome that can inform us about them

Hi Terry In years gone by I had gas detectors fitted to 2 medium size cabin cruisers.These were both fitted near the kitchen/gas hot plates as opposed to engine bays. They were hard wired so once the batteries were on they were functional and gave a chirp or two when starting up I think. I never experienced any issues with the gas installation but then again I was very careful in checking all lines /valves etc and had professionally inspected. Not withstanding this the benefit would also be if someone/somehow the hotplate valve was knocked or possibly the flame went out when using. Believe it or not one couple we bought a cruiser from used to turn a pottery flower pot upside down on a gas ring and use it for heating at night!. That got the "A" pretty damn quick ! Mike

The flower pot heater reminded me of an email sign-off message I saw a while back: "I'm not actually advocating that we kill all the stupid people, but just that we take the warning signs off everything and let nature take its course."

Hi Tony -Yep it's hard to imagine, however they also had an 8 hp motor rigged to a 8 ft Zodiac and took through the bar at Lakes Entrance for fun so they could surf the 90 mile. I'm actually glad I sold the boat so as not to become a victim of the natural selection process ! Mike

My sister has a Euro-isle, and the Gas Detector was in-built. She says they're compulsory for insurance purposes. Don't know if age of vehicle has anything to do with things or not. Hers is 2 years old. The detecter is pretty sensitive. Goes off if she sprays anything too close to it. Insect repellant, Air freshener etc,. She says it even went off once when the dog F-------ed next to it. Cheers, xina.
