I think the word that triggered the message flood was something to do with Fish or Fishing .
The one message informing me that a buddy has a crush on me is okay, but knowing my luck it will be a bloke

I've put some info about these ads on the solo forum. If you try to pursue the message it can cost you money. Ignore it, and it will eventually go away.
I'm not sure the webmaster has any control over it.

AVG won't stop the ads flashing, but if there's a bug attached to the ad it will certainly be stopped. I don't think those ads have bugs, just nuisance value.
It's a bit like wind - wait a while and it will pass.
Cheers Granny

Hi Everyone, Apologies for the annoying and sometimes tasteless pop-up ads that are appearing on this forum. Unfortunately, I have no control over the content or number of these as this forum is hosted by a third party. I have asked them to give me some idea of how much it would cost to go 'ad free' (this is calculated by the number of page impressions downloaded per month) but as yet have had no reply. I'll chase them up again and hopefully will have some good news soon. In the meantime, please try to ignore the ads as much as possible (I understand, easier said than done).

G'day Cindy,
I visit this forum to participate in the discussions and the ad's don't bother me one iota, I simply ignore them.

Hey ..
I seem to be missing something here. I have never experienced any pop ups ... In this case a good thing?
I log into this forum direct via "activeboard.com ... etc". and not thru the Grey Nomads web site. Is that the reason?
I also run Nortons Firewall & anti Virus & anti Spam ... one of those might block the pop ups
On my Email address, I have never got spam ... I use a hotmail address for all public/commercial stuff & reserve my private address for trusted friends.
I do lots of other anti virus & spam etc stuff like you all probably do. Things like - system scans with Nortons & Spybot & Ad-aware on a monthly basis.
I follow Dave's advice & don't visit shonky web sites & use "BCC" on group (cleaned up) Emails , as do all my friends.
Maybe I have been just lucky so far .. fingers crossed.

I don't get those pop ups because I have a pop up blocker integrated into AVG free.... You may find you have some adware installed on your PC without your knowledge so you would need a good spyware/Adware programme to scan and kill that Or go here & get one: http://free.avg.com/
Hi Everyone, I've had a response from our forum hosts about upgrading to a gold level and unfortunately, it's not in our budget now. Perhaps the best thing to do in terms of the pop-ups and unwanted ads is to ensure that you block pop-ups with a specialised pop-up blocker (Basil provides a few good links to download one above) and most importantly, don't reply to any of them. Please feel free to contact me if it becomes a major issue for you.

Firefox has a built-in facility to block 'pop-ups'. It's also my preferred browser after trying several others.
