Well, we are almost ready - our first really big trip. Want to go to Darwin via Woomera and up through the centre. Any advice would be welcome. Planning to leave mid to late May. When we get to the top well just see which way the wind blows and then decide whether it's to be left (west) or right (east)

Ma and an instant Guru, oh well welcome to you Ma, great trip planned dont need any advice from here she's a straight road and as long as you keep the shiny side up and the dirty side down then you cant go too far wrong

Thanks for the welcome Guru, my Bob was nicknamed Guru about 40 odd years ago, so if you don't mind too much, he'll probably stick to it. Always a bit apprehensive when starting something new. We have given it a lot of thought, but probably not enough, but you learn as you go I suppose. Thanks again.

Welcome.... you never know we may see you on the road. We're heading off from Perth early in May and will be going to Darwin then hopefully across to Cairns etc to see a bit of that side of the country. Safe & happy travelling

Welcome MA my little bit of advice is when driving mainly from Woomera on, take care of roos THEY ARE HOPPING MAD and the eagles that dine on the road kill, magic birds [bird lover here] but very slow as they take off. ooops add those with feathers.

Bob and I are bird lovers too especially the eagle, hawk, cestrel families. May years ago I went across the Nullabour (by bus - big mistake) and the eagles I saw over there were amazing. Looking forward to it and hopefully some good pics as well.

Ma I noticed that you have altered your signature, I was joking when I picked up the guru bit, the guru label on me in here is a bit of a joke to me because it simply puts me in as the highest ranking yak yak. or the biggest gossip certainly not the most knowledgeble, and I smiled when I saw that you had nicknamed your husband "guru" or he who yaks the most, and I had to comment on it
I have the gift of the gab and I love to talk, i also like to "stir" a little, tie that up with a boring office job and here I am a frustrated traveller but the trouble with these forums (and why I am beginning to hate them even though this is the only one i can stomach) is that the face cant be seen and therefore the expression is lost, and this causes angst amongst a lot of people
dont take umbridge at my remark it was not meant to be snaky, replace the guru tag and enjoy the forum, when you see my posts please look for the cheeky grin, I assure you it's there

Certainly no umbrage taken. You and Bob have a bit in common in that you both like to "stir". He on the other hand doesn't talk all that much at the best of times.
I can tell just by your comments that you would be a lot of fun to hang around with and like my "guru" have a wicked sense of humour.
This is the first forum I have ever taken part in and so far find it really good. Keep up the comments. Cheers

By the look of your pic we both have the same set up - or nearly anyway. We pick our van up on Monday and am really looking forward to having some comfort, although our "Penguin" fitted the bill admirably for the time we had it.
Would be good to actually meet up with some of the others on this site. Looking forward to it. Cheers

Welcome aboard guys. We did the up the middle, across the top(west) and down the west coast last year, had a ball. If time is no issue, stop n stay as offen as possible . Over night at devils marbles was good, materanka springs worth stopping and agree with Helena, daly waters pub and it just goes on. Are you thinking of free camping? We used it as much as possible and enjoyed the experience and company. If you do make shore to get a copy of the Camps 5 book, it became our bible. So take your time and take it all in. Cheer

Thanks Chalky. Yes, we plan to free camp as much as possible. From what we have read on here it's the best way to meet people, and hey, ya gotta watch the pennies anyway.
Got our copy of Camps so we have all the necessaries and what more do you need, Camps and a good bottle of red. Gotta get the priorities right............LOL
Got our new van last week and are doing a test run for a couple of days down at Moruya to see how things go.
Plan on getting away late May, Doc appointments allowing. Really looking forward to it.

Been away for a few days to give the new van a test run. Happy to report that all was A1.
We went for a Jayco Discovery Chalky, we had a Jayco Penguin and loved every minute of it and we didn't have one bit of trouble with it. Everything is as it should be with the Discovery as well.
They say that the aftersales service leaves a lot to be desired so we will just have to see what happens if and when we need something or when the first service is due.
