Hi all, Just to introduce ourselves. We are looking to semi-retire sooner rather than later and hope to get about with our Ultimate and Navara a lot more. Haven't done a lot of big trips as yet as work doesn't permit, although we are off to Birdsville in July. Hope to do a lot of the rough stuff for a few years and then eventually get into a caravan of some sort.
Looking forward to learning lots from other more experienced, well travelled nomads. Cheers

Hi leajoy. welcome to the forum.
Yep, we can all learn a lot from the guys and gals that post here. if not ,then we can surely have a good laugh and enjoy the friendly banter of this lot.
Wish i could keep up with the threads, medication designed to slow me down, but i always seem to be 2 days behind them.
see you out there one day.

Gday and welcome to the forum, hell I remember the "rough stuff" some of the best travelling times of our lives, dont be in too much of a hurry to get through it
half tempted many times to go back to basics with a puddle jumper and camper trailer
Birdsville will be a "culture shock" for you, be sure and spend a bit of time in the pub around 8 ish at night, theres some fantastic locals around there and more than you think

Hi and welcome.
As you plan ask lots of questions. Ask travellers and campers. Check out vans and all the gear available. Work out what you're looking for and what you're long term plans are, and all the gear available.
No matter what you decide it will be a great experience when you finally set out.
All the best to you, and safe and happy travels. Cheers Chris

Thanks everyone for your warm welcome.
Thanks smokeydk - yes we did enjoy our Easter and look forward to next year.
Dave06 - we look forward to talking to the "locals". On our quick trip to Qld over xmas we stayed in the smaller towns, off the main highway and had a great time talking to the locals over a few drinks.
Cruisin Granny/JohnW - we have made some bad decisions buying camping gear over the years eg Waeoc fridge. Now we really ask lots of questions.
Look forward to joining in and hopefully we can be of help to others on the forum
Cheers

I force myself into the local drinking establisments, simply for "research" purposes you understand, we finish our meal just as the locals are wondering in and then we head for the front bar and thats when the night begins
fantastic stories and some fantastic people out in the scrub, they've been described as the salt of the earth, well that maybe but by hell they are a funny bunch
