From the end of April next year I will be doing my first long motorhome trip from Brissy. I need to finish at Jindabyne in August [where I will be staying at Lake Jindabyne for the ski season] So essentialy I have May, June July to fill in. First thought was to go north on the bitumen as far as I can and then come back south inland. Weather should be good. Crowds perhaps a problem? Other option is to head west over to south west WA. Feedback on the weather in WA at this time of the year and any general thoughts would be appreciated.

John We were in the south of WA last year in Sept,Oct,& across the Nullabour in Nov, it was freezing, there is no land mass below you to break up the cold of the southern ocean.

w.a. has a long weekend in june. leonora has the invitational mile race. well worth a visit. its the richest mile race in australia. all of the top atheletes go there. they also have a 60km bike race. a double header horse race meeting, where the atheletes are intrduced. heats under lights sat night plus entertainment, last time we went, john williamson. sunday a breakfast all you can eat, gold coin donation, at the old gwalia homstead. buses to the races foot races are in the main street, 120mtrs, 600mtrs also, and everything is FREE. except the breakfast of course.

My bones are currently defrosting in Narooma NSW, still, after mid Aug to Oct in southern WA this year. I came south inland from Carnarvon and eventually hit the Nullabor. Brass monkey weather indeed......No crowd problems in the outback when it's cold

If you have a vague plan it would climatically be preferable to go north then mooch your way south to your destination.
Most of the time you can just phone ahead a day or 2 before you're due to arrive and there's bound to be a site for you.
Many parks don't take booking for that time of the year, although I have seen bookings made as well. First in best dressed.
If you plan to go to southern WA keep track of your anatomy parts in the freezing weather. It blows like an icy bugger and rains a lot. Not very comfortable. The coastal scenery would be spectacular, the country would be green, but still the cold would be cutting through your drizabone. Geez it gets cold! On the other hand if you want to see Southern Rights and Humpback Whales this is the time to do it.
If you don't have to, don't go there until late spring when it's warming up and the wildflowers are everywhere in a most prolific, spectacular fashion.
Good luck with this decision.

Yeah that was certainly my initial plan but we spoke to a friend who says he went west last May, June and the weather was good which confused me. I certainly expected August/Sept to be very cold but we would be back by then.
All in all North seems to be what I'll do though.

Three months to travel................who care where. Just go and enjoy. Flip a coin at the crossroads..........see where it takes you. You are only about seven reasonable driving days from Jindabyne anywhere in Australia.

hmm!! strange, I like the cold and after a summer like we just had I will chase it again, I find walking in the rain a pure joy, snuggling at night a pleasure and I would imagine making snowballs an absolute delight
however a few wet days and it can be tiring, so you had better venture over here where it is fine all the time!
