Caravaning is all very new to us and we are really starting from scratch! We are looking at buying an Island Star 17ft van and would like to know if a Hyundai Santa Fe is capable of towing this?

according to a couple of sites the santa fe will lug 2,000 braked kilo's
I got this off noels island star website so must assume it is correct
so by these figures I assume it would be fine, I hope it helps a little
I know it is the 16 foot model but there wouldnt be that much difference, and welcome to the forum!

Thanks for your help Dave and Dave 06.
Santa Fe only has a ball weight of 150kgs so have decided to look at a bigger vehicle, either a mitsubishi or toyota.
Cheers for now, Gail

I have owned a Pajero for several years now and have been very happy with my purchase. I know some Prado owners who are equally happy with their choice too. Would recommend diesel in either case for towing.

That site is a British one. You can not refer to overseas sites as vehicles very often have different tow weights for different markets. Vehicles are often de-rated for use in Oz due to out hotter climate.

Thanks guys for all your help. Think we will go for a Pajero but 2nd hand ones are few and far between with reasonable mileage. Ones we have looked at are up in the 90,000kms and $40,000+
Cheers for now, Gail

Have you considered a Kia Sorento? T/D allowed 2500kg braked and some unbelievable deals on new "old stock" as the new model is due out soon.

Bit the bullet and have bought a 2008 Pajero VRX at the weekend and picked it up yesterday! Went to the auctions and they were $53000, and not too many available. Very pleased with our buy and got a good trade in too which was the best thing. Now we start the looking around for the van and wait for retirement next April.
