Has anybody out-there travelled any of the 4 wheel drive tracks west of the west McDonnell ranges through to 80 mile beach and Meekatharra in the pas t 12 months, rgds Gitsho

G'day gitsho, if you mean the Gary junction hwy and kidson track there was an article on that trip in the latest edition of 4wd action.

Not in the last 12 months Gitsho. I presume that you have some experience in travelling long, remote desert roads? We travelled west along the Gary Junction Road and Rudall River NP in 2005. This slide show has a few pics. We had to wait in Alice for a while for it to dry out a bit first,
In 2008 we drove west again, this time towing a boat. Here is another slide show of that trip.
This road is mostly pretty good, but it is a long way and there is not much traffic, so you need to be able to take care of yourself. Fuel is available at most of the Communities along the way (at a price). I suggest you at least get your self the HEMA Great Desert Tracks maps of the area. You will need permits to transit this area. They are free and can be obtained on line.
