Not at all. It has an engine to get it airborne, but can then soar with the engine stopped. See the "Lake Eyre" entry.

I was being tongue in cheek!
I flew a Blanik back in the 60s and early 70s including solo cross country, also aero-towed with a Tiger Moth back in those days. Held an instructor rating (power) in the 70s and early 80s
