Hi there. We are just now getting ourselves prepared to try travelling in a caravan. We will start small and work up to the big day when we can start the good life. As a first choice for a van we are seriously considering the Jayco Sterling 17-55-2 pop top model. Does anyone have any feedback on this unit that might help us with our decision. Appreciate any help from experienced people out there.

I have friends who have just purchased the same model van (with en-suite) and expect to take delivery at the end of this month. They chose the "outback" option plus the "Simplicity" suspension. I was recently camped next to a van fitted with "Simplicity" suspension and I asked the owner what he thought of it and he spoke very well of it and considered the extra cost worthwhile. That is my sum total knowledge of Simplicity suspensions however.
My friends researched their options very thoroughly and came to the conclusion that the Sterling offered better value for money than the more up-market rigs. They recognised that it's a mass produced unit and the fit-out and finish is not as flash as more expensive rigs.
Last year I was set up in a caravan park in Cairns and the people next to me had a Sterling (standard "on road" full height model) that they had taken up Cape York without any problems, obviously not the Telegraph Track however.

It's good to see someone starting a little smaller then the large gin-palaces. If you are like us you may find you don't need anything too large.

Hi there just read your item we are sitting in caravan park in Hay there is 3 of the same van so i asked them how they go with the vans if they had any problems with them, one is one his way back down from quensland he had no problem at all other 2 like us on our way up one said he did have a problem 2 weeks ago with one of his windows poped out while driving but had that problem fixed and still said he would not change van, so hope this bit of feed back helps you out, have a great trip when you start mate
