I have just purchased a new van 18 foot concept van, which I am very pleased with, however because it is the basic van I need to get a good elec system going. So I am asking some of the experts what I need to assemble to get me on the road.

G/day grey dog, Before you can design a electric system you need to work out what you want to run from this system.
eg. do you wish to free camp or jusy stay at c/van parks? If you are going to free camp then you need to come up with the list of what you want to have.
eg. lights, fridges, tv, sound system ,inverter, The list goes on,then calculate the amount of power these units require to then come up with battery size & charging system, be it solar, or from a genny. Once this is calculated then you can start the plan.
Cheers Jim.

You stated that you have a basic van ,does it have a battery & 240v charger built in ? If it has & you have a genny then you can run with that for a while to see how you go then add later if you need.
PS, this should move to the techies corner if we need to go further. Cheers.

Mate if you have just brought a new van the dealer should have explained your system , does your light work off 12volt most new vans do how does your fridge work is it 3 way have you got a gas stove if you can do without TV when free camping you can get away with a battery pack . It would be rare for a new caravan these days not to have a battery pack without knowing the set up of your new van it would be hard to give advise I would think

G'day Jim, Thanks for the reply, when I said basic,I meant basic,it does not come with a battery, and consequently here I am looking for info on a battery for the van.
I have had a read of the mags and end up a bit confused, so I have come to the best info library for us who want the wind in our hair
