I have just recieved a text saying I have won 900000 pommy pounds with nokia uk. This is a bit strange as I never entered the comp. Also, the text is from Indiana, usa. He wants my bank details, and a deposit to send the money. What a laugh!I am send the text to the AFI. I am sure the feds will know how to deal with it.This is the first scam I have had on my mobile.Anybody else get these texts?

they don't give up do they???? I suppose they still catch a few in their net. If it's not someone on the phone claiming to be from Microsoft (they soon hang up if you question them) its email and now mobile phone numbers. Where will it end? I suppose it won't as long as there are still gullible people falling for the tricks. Best to hang up or delete any persons unknown.

you are not very nice, I think you should give the nice man/lady your bank details, he/she maybe in need of some cash.

How did they get your number? I didnt think mobile numbers were in the public domain. Maybe you advertise it for your business?
Thanks for the warning.

As soon as you give your mobile number it is in the public domain .
You have absolutely no control over what people do with your phone number .

Subject: FW: Australian Mobile phone numbers going public
REMEMBER: Mobile Phone Numbers Go Public next month.
REMINDER: all mobile phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sale calls.
YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS
Below is a link where you can enter your phone numbers online to put an end to telemarketing calls. Don't just delete those calls otherwise you will find that you may have been signed up for all sorts of extra services that you didn't want or know about. Like special chimes, music etc.
jimricho, thanks for that i have just sent the link to my son, I will now ask Cindy to delete this link

The "donotcall" link is valid, it's only the mobile phone going public bit that's a furphy, so you may be happy just to edit your post.

We recently advertised our motor bike on the bike sales website. The only enquiry we hav had so far was by text from a +44 (UK) phone number, asking us to give them more info via email, which we did. WE then got a return email, saying that due to time and location, they could not visit for a sighting, but if we registered on paypal (they provided the link) that they would deposit the money and arrange pickup.
I asked them what was the GO, that their phone number originated in the UK - have heard nothing since.
Be Aware

You're also [as you're probably already aware, but just in case you're not,] susceptible to this type of scam On-line.
Friends of mine have put a couple of vehicles for sale On-line over the last couple of years, and have had lots of replies from scammers trying to get details.
Be wary.
Cheers, Sheba.
