We are leaving on a 9 month trip to WA next month and wonder if it is worth taking the kayack on the top of the car, will we use it enough to warrent the added load.

I guess thats pretty open ended, it would depend on what parts of WA you intend to visit and whether or not you would make use of the kayak. As a personal opinion for what its worth, if the caravan is on the back of the tug, the tinnie is ALWAYS on the roof. I wouldnt leave home without it. As a matter of fact a fellow Grey Nomad came by the other week and he had a tinnie AND a kayak on his roof...

Can't see why not Suzanne. I would turn it upside down though Bricky . I built a 'purpose' built Kayak trailer to cart my Son's boats . Allways th way - started with a slalom k1 . Well if I gotta cart his boat - Dad will get one too , bit big , bit old for a k1 , a 16ft canadian canoe . Dad can I have a Down River racer . Sold th k1 - replaced it with a newer one . Dad can I have a c1 . Dad , there's this other k1 , dad there's this other c1 . 6 boats . Don't mind though he got 2 silvers in the Nationals . Dad's got a new hobby , canoeing on th Clarence & carting Son's boats to fitness & skills on creeks & flowing rivers . Richo

Sue, unless it is a sea going unit & thats where you want to use it , the west coast does not have the rivers & creeks like the east coast.

 

Depends where in WA you are going but there are lots of great places south of Perth starting with the Peel estuary. It will be a case of take it and not use it much but leave it home and you will wish you had it

Hi guys, I have always regretted the times that I didnt carry the Yak; yes, they can be inconvenient at times but we have a reason for the purchase and the enjoyment out on the water is hard to describe to those who havent had the pleasure of kayaking....take it!!

Many creeks and rivers you could use it in WA, including the Swan River upper reaches in the Metro area. You may be interested in this spot as well it is just off the Great Eastern Higway on the way to Perth and is great for kayaking/canoeing etc, either a day visit and also camping depending on what type of rig you have (no motorhomes or caravans but campervans, camper trailers and tents ok). The Moore River at Guilderton about 100ks north of Perth is a great place for kayaking/canoeing, also good fishing for Bream. If it was me i would take it plenty of places to use it here in W.A.

Hello Sue,yes take it!! We have two yaks we put on the roof of the Toyota and when we leave at the end of April we will be taking them.We use them all the time here in the peel estuary and last year we used them at Millstream.
