I noticed an article in Caravan World discussing that the govt is not to go ahead with the proposed ban on Bull Bars ..
Following is part of the quotation from the Caravan World article ...
"Catherine King MP, Parliamentary Secretary for Infrastructure and Transport, decided to stop the Regulation Impact Statement process yesterday, and promised the Government would not consider banning bullbars. She was quoted as saying:"
"Over recent weeks I have received strong feedback through the consultation process associated with the Regulation Impact Statement (RIS) proposing the adoption of an international standard on pedestrian safety. Following careful consideration of the views and concerns put by individuals and stakeholders, I have decided that the proposal is not suitable for Australian conditions and I have directed the Department to withdraw the RIS."

Hay Guys n Gals,
Well the voice ofthe people has finaly been heard, there is another topic thread in here somewhere that I started regarding this issue, most of the 4X4 suppliers and groups have been involved in a concerted effort to disuade the government from continuing with this stupidity.
Finally we have someone that is bright enough to recognise a stupid idea in the making.

it's not the fault of the bull bars, it's the fault of the people who walk in front of them, it would be better if the Government spent money on educating people on the safest way to cross a road, ie: not while texting or with ipods stuck in their ears

Saw a guy today roaring through the caravan park with his right arm hanging out the window holding his cigarette, steering with one hand talking on his phone held against his ear by his hunched shoulder. If he'd run into some kiddy running through the park would you still have blamed the pedestrian rather than the bull bar?

Loved that comment Wombat and had a good chuckle at it. My sentiments also. Saw a live one of your kind today a huge Wombat waddling out of harm's way down here in Tassie in the Central Highlands where it was snowing at the time. Yes 4th March and snow. A week or so prior it was 32 in my motorhome down here and we were all complaining about the heat!

I have a "Smart Bar". It's "high tensile" plastic, and having seen how it performed in a prang, I wouldn't have anything else. It's flexible and takes the brunt of the impact with minimal damage to the vehicle. The Police car protection is a new molded form of the smart bar.
The problem with pedestrians is the mentality that they are a protected species, especially on those thick white lines, mistakenly presumed to be pedestrian crossings.
Just like any white line on our roads, there's nothing to stop the vehicle crossing it except self-preservation, commonsense and courtesy.
The pedestrians must take full responsibility for their behaviour. The amount of injury would be determined by the speed of impact, by bonnet, boot or bull bar.
What do they blame if they get hit by a Hyundai Getz or a gopher? The wrong design of the bonnet or handle bars?

I do not step foot onto the crossings until the vehicle has actually stopped as it is my responsibility to make sure the way is clear before walking the walk.
