It's great to read that so many people are going to see Australia. As for me, well I'm doing quite the opposite. I started in nineteen sixty fruit picking in Orange, and then was bitten by the travel bug. That started me criss crossing this magic country, which include twenty years as a professional tour driver, thirteen years in heavy transport both on the "black top" and oil rig shift and supply in our vast deserts. Even spent a year crewing on the tourists boats out of Cairns. Quite a few years "on the Wallaby" and I found there was always work available if a bloke was willing to give it a go. I have met some wonderful people, and swapped tales with many folk who, like me, started when they were quite young. However, about a year ago I got myself back to the south west corner of WA, parked my tiny caravan in the Kalgan river c/v park, and fell in love with Albany. Even with all those years of travel, I still find this town one of the lovliest in Oz. So, I wish all of you safe travelling, and should any one be in the market for a Mazda 4X4 diesel twin cab and a small poptop' van, with virtually everything you will need for a safe journey, let me know. Hi Pipes I will have to drop over one day for a chat/coffee/brew. You right though about Albany, nice little country city that isnt like any other city I know. I am not ready yet to hang up the travelling boots by a long shot but when I do it will be in my home town of Smithton in tassie if for no other reason than the luss green grass that grows under my bare feet, I hate footware and do so love the feeling of soft luss grass. The water is warmer here than in tassie but seems just as pristine as it is back home but as silly as it may seem the salt content seems higher in tassie, why you may ask, well in tassie when I swim I stuggle to open my eyes under water for any lenth of time but here I dont have a problrm diving without googles and seeing where I am going. Very simular with the hills and rocky outcrops also. So if heaven forbid and tassie sunk I guess this would be home. cheers blaze

travelled over the West a couple of years ago and like you fell in love with Albany it is such a lovely litle place would have liked to have spent more time there but not able to at that time maybe when we go that way again will be able to see more of it Helena.
