My apologies if I get a bit long winded about the problem. As mentioned previously on forum, I recently, after the best part of fifty years, stopped travelling. I put my Mazda 4X4 and tiny 'van up for sale, and settled in Albany. But, now that I had "settled", I needed something bigger than my ten by six and a half foot 'van to live in. I bought an '85, nineteen foot "Pratline Low Tow" "van. It had been kept under cover, when not being used, and is almost immaculate. The annex appears to have never been used. Then I went into town to insure it at the RAC, because thay had "covered" my ute and small van. When I advised them of the brand name, etc, I was told that they wouldn't insure it, as, if and when it needed parts for possible repair, they would have to be accessed from the other side of Australia!!! I told them that the van would be my permenant home, therefore as it wasn't going anywhere, wouldn't need repairs, barring a violent storm, or fire. The girl, robot fashion, repeated her above statement. I shopped around, but to no avail, until, a glimmer of hope. As I bank with them, I went to the ANZ and contacted the head office in Sydney. They agreed to insure my 'van, but prior to my signing anything, wanted to know how often I would be using it. When I told the Sydney person that I would be living in it permenantly, Sydney person said, NO !!??? It could only be coverd if I used it for holidays. Is it me. Am I missing something!?? Does anybody know how I can get insu. coverage, please. Regards. Pipes

Have you tried the Seniors Club, not sure whats its called but I'm sure thats what I used years ago when I owned a relocatable in a caravan park. Think it might have been called APIA. Am surprised with RAC. As when I changed to a campervan Aami wouldn't insure it regardless that I had been with them forever. I went to RACV and had no problems.

Pipes,
Have you tried CIL?
I found them very good. Im not affiliated with them in any way & perhaps they may be more expensive than some of ther others, I'm not sure.

C.I.L will insure on-site and on-road vans. If it's the same van or separate vans. I've been insured with them since 1998 when I had my old van on site in Broome, and then the new van on-site and on the road. I've never had a problem and they don't seem to lay out any silly conditions. The fees are very comparable with anyone else. I just kept them informed of my movements. That's Caravan Insurance Limited. Good luck.

CIL is my recommendation as well. Tried several, including RACQ, who advised me after going through a long winded phone questionaire, they they don't "do" caravans over $20K

My tug is insured with Allianz with no problems. They were good when I had a little bump into a little red car in Cairns. How selective are CMCA with non-member caravanners?
