Rat pellets or traps with peanut butter on it. Good to see Echuca hasn't been forgotten by those darn mice.

I've been negotiating grasshoppers and locusts on the roads of SA. I then spend my time removing the resulting "jam" off the windscreen, headlights and other extremities of my car. If the mice plague gets really full on, the roads become quite treacherous with the slippery fur coating and mice bits. Be careful.

CG. Have just been reading the local news from home, Echuca, online. A parasite has been killing off the locusts flying in from NSW which means they will now be a lot less than other years. Good news for the people.

To stop mice chewing up wiring etc under the bonnet of my vehicles i use mothballs in plasic holders, the smell seems to keep them out & we have mice every where. Badly need a cold snap with rain to thin them out.

Read somewhere about peppermint oil on cotton wool repelling mice - worth a try?

Don't send them this way, although they say they're coming here anyway. Stinking little furry things get into everything.

Daughter travelled from Canberra to Griffith the other night. Said there were mice jumping all over the road. Also grasshoppers. Being a city girl, it took her a while to work out what they were. lol

I know things like flood and fire will either kill them or make them move very rapidly but these dont seem like an option for you

Just up town and was talking to a friend that camped on the Hayplains, The mice were so thick that they had to get up in the night and move on, PLUS, the mice got in the motor and made the timing belt break which stuffed the motor. The racv brought them home on the back of a truck.. They have a Jayco Feit MH....that was last week.... not very happy

Spent the morning cleaning out the van as thought had got rid of mice after sitting here since last Wednesday night with pellets throughout. Cleaned out the back, found they had eaten into the pellet boxes well and chewed a lot up into powder and spread throughout. Then went to the side sliding door, remembered had left some spare towels and winter clothes under one of the back seats so took the seat out to clean that out, only for a very healthy mouse to come scurryng out, saw me and headed back and out the open back door. This is 4 days after arriving and having pellets down all that time which proves there was more than one. Every cupboard has chewed up pellets in there, some I haven't put there so the mouse must have carried them. Have on my list to get steel wool, peppermint oil, moth balls and anything else that weill gt me home without attracting more. Not looking forward to picking up more on the way home if between Canberra and Griffith is that bad.

Wow mate,
Sounds like you certainly had a few of the little blighters alone for your maiden journey.
Many years ago I was camped in western NSW at a shearing shed & there was a mouse plague. You couldnt walk anywhere without treading on them. The were running up the walls.
I fired a shot gun round to the ground and must have killed about 2 dozen of them with one shot.
There use to be a device you could plug in back home, into the 240volt, it use to emitt a certain frequency of sound which would send these little critters running. I'm guessing those devices didnt draw much power, could probably run off a cheap $99 dick smith inverter & be turned on in the evening. Any critter that got on board throughout the day would do the harold holt.

We are in beautiful Wilmington Bush camp dealing with mice too. They got into the Prado somehow as we drove from Balranald to here, plus theres lots of them here too. We're a bit worried they might get into the caravan but so far its mouse-free. The helpful owner here gave us a couple of baits for the tug, will go shopping tomorrow for moth-balls, peppermint oil, and more baits. Thanks!

Never thought about that. I have one that I loaned to a friend once . She was very pleased with it. Fixed her problem in a few days.
And it cleaned my place out when I came back from my Cruise. Had been away a couple of months, and came home to find mice running over my Kitchen benchtops. Got rid of them nicely.
Cheers,
Sheba.

If anyone finds one of these contraptions let us all know. I think we might just corner the market if we can find the outlet.

I went to Lyndhurst with a job last week, going up through Jamestown and Orroroo, and came back through Quorn and Stirling North. I saw one dead mouse at the Gladstone Roadhouse, but no others. Locusts on the other hand were plentiful. I found the "locust jam" washed off easier than the "grasshopper jam". There has to be an upside to these things. I'm heading to Qld this week I think, via Broken Hill. Anything I need to be aware of through Cobar, Bourke to Roma and points north? When I worked on the trawlers I found crickets will chew a Chux cloth to bits overnight. Ants are still the enemy. I admire their tenacity to find a meal and nesting place, but they're such a nuisance when they find it.

Just had word from Firefly who is enroute to Rocky to pick up their new van.
Camped at Nindygully last night and the mice were running up the leg of her chair while she was sitting in it.
Crawled into the sleeping bag in the tent and the mice crawled up one side of the tent and used the other side as a slippery dip.
Our Coles supermarket has sold out of moth balls and bait blocks.
