The artist Hans Heysen built a camper trailer to take on his travels into the (then) remote parts of SA. It can be seen at the Hans Heysen studio/museum on the outskirts of Hahndorf. It may be the first ever camper-trailer (in the modern sense anyway) and includes some remarkable features for its time.
jimricho, the Hans Heysen Studio/Museum is on my list of places to visit when I am in Hahndorf around Sept/Oct so I'll be really interested to see the camper trailer.

They look like mobile camp kitchens for stockmen or road workers. Bloody hot all year round. There's an interesting mobile home at Nuriootpa on display in the main street .

I only intend to travel on days that end in y........
It's in a storage shed "out the back" but open to the public. The day I visited Hahndorf the weather was about as foul as it could get, cold with heavy rain all day but still worth the visit.
While I was there I was informed that I'd missed a Hans Heysen exhibition in Newcastle only the month before, it included works lent from private collections too. Didn't even know it was on, nice to find out after the event!
PS: I only have a beer on days ending in "y"

As I read your post, I am looking at a 600x1200 print of a Sir Hans Heysen painting "The Three Gums". Is is pinned to my study wall awaiting framing to hang in the entrance to our home. (been there a couple of years now!)
He is a favourite artist of mine.
Did you see the three Gums on the interpretative walk at the museum? They appear in several of his paintings.
Another favourite, maybe not of the same quality but great none the less, is/was Henk Guth whose studio "Panorama Guth" in Alice was burned down a few years ago. Fortunately I have a video of the gallery & two small oil minatures of his. A print of his famous "King Of The Riverbed" ghost gum waits for framing, alongside The Three Gums
I seem to remember the camper in a shed waiting restoration .. but may be wrong. I was last there several years ago. We stayed a couple of days in the CP in town.

jimricho, thanks for the tip about the storage shed "out the back".
p.s. Pleased to hear that you only have a beer on days ending in "y". It wouldn't be healthy to drink too often

Must confess Doug, that was three years ago the day before we got married. It's gone off avatar now as there was some mix up and Cindy deleted my original account.
When I work out my pics folder I will put up a more current one

We have both those paintings side by side in our lounge, Cupie.
And we were lucky enough to see the Heyson paintings when they came to the National Art Gallery in Canberra
Hi guys, I just got home from the Lake Goldsmith Steam rally.
Saw some ideas for Caravans I thought you might be interested in, They are a bit basic but you've gotta start somewhere!!!
