The Scutes are the raised ridges that run longwise down the back. Sampson measured at least 3 feet between them, from one side to the other. His top jaw we estimated was 3 feet long again, and we found out some weeks later, that a good way to work out the length of the animal is to miltiply the length of the head by 7.
That tallied with what length we had thought him to be.
