ok this may not have much to do with grey nomading as such but i bet there are a lot of us greying semi nomads that are a bit "crafty" now i'm not into knitting or anything like that but i was wondering if anyone has ever made thier own candles, i was thinking of having a go at it and was hopeing for some tips, yeh i know go to the shop and by one, i got that tip already i'm hopeing that if it turns out ok i might be able to produce enough between now and may next year to set up at the next medieval fair but thats not my main purpose for wanting to give it a go, i'm just looking at differnt things to do with my spare time seeing as traveling for any lenght of time is off the list for the time being anyway just thought i'd ask, i have looked on google but it seems that there is a lot of info there for sale but not much advise unless i'm looking in the wrong section, anyway if anyone knows how to do it i'd be gratefull for any hints

I,ve seen it done commercially by the dip process. When I was an apprentice in the early 1960's. We had a job repairing some very old machinery in the candle makers near where I worked in the centre of Liverpool, U.K.
This place was like stepping straight into a "Dickensian" novel. Think you can get like sillicon moulds for them now maybe
I just had a look on the Net. typed in "Candlemaking DIY) seems to be heaps of leads there.
Interested to hear how you get on

Hi BB
Try this site I used to make them years ago finding the right mold is the hardest part I used shot glasses.
I was in a pub when I was a young feller, I think it was at Wooloomooloo or Kings Cross and there was a floorshow with a chinese sheila gee she was clever with candles.
Sorta stuck in my mind ever since.
I know I know Ma. do not pass go do not collect $200.00

I've considered the same idea myself for next year when we finish this trip & then sell at flea market stalls & the Glen Innis mediaeval fair so did a bit of research a year ago & came up with these sites.
Another idea so you can make the shapes you want is to buy latex & make your own moulds by wrapping small statuettes or similar in it & after it has hardened cut the base off to pour wax in. you should find instructions for this method on the net somewhere
Hope I helped a little
When you learn you can come & teach me
Cheers
