I am sooo excited....I have finally bought my van!!!
It is a Toyota Hi Ace Commuter in great mechanical condition with dual fuel, low kms for it's age, a roll out awning etc; I won't bore you with all of the details but I am very happy.
The interior layout isn't quite as I want it...YET...but I will change that to suit me before I start my travels. I will give progress updates.
I bought it from a couple who can no longer travel due to health issues. I picked it up on Saturday and have almost worn it out just looking at it.
I think it's a bit like me really....an oldie but a goodie. Cheers. Pam.

Thanks everyone for your positive comments.
I will post photos...but it won't be today. The rain is pouring down so not a good day for piccies
Jimbo, it is 1986 model but has always been well looked after, serviced regularly and it just passed both the safety inspection and road worthy certificate with flying colours.
I know that none of this is a surefire guarantee but it's as close as I can get to it with a second hand vehicle.
Cheers.

Congratulations Pam. You're really gonna love it. Got a Name yet , or are you going to call it "The Travel Bug"?
Sounds about the same age as Happywanderers'.

Hi, Pam
You sound very excited. I can feel your happiness!
I'm a Canadian, about to embark on a several-week journey around Australia and I figure I'll do it in a camper van. Since you just did your research to buy one, I thought I'd ask you how to go about it, which vans you came along that you would recommend, and ask you to spread the word.
All I need is something that will house me and my computer. Aside from visiting Australia, touring the continent and doing a cattle drive, I'm also writing a book while I'm there. I'll need access to excellent internet connection -- though I may do that by staying in hotels -- because, as a business coach, I will still be serving my clients by telephone ... for which I need excellent connection.
If you had any 2nd or 3rd-runner up vans in your research, I'd love to speak to their owners.
Thanks.

Hi Lynne
I replied to your post in the Solos forum re: the van.
As for the internet connection...
I will leave that for other GN's to answer as they have traversed far more of Oz than I (YET) and would be more qualified to respond.
Happy travels.
Cheers.

I'll be asking that question, specifically, in time for sure. I created a new post last night about finding a campervan and I've already had lots of responses. I need to get back to how I make a living to cover this trip before I can check out their recommended sites and reply to everyone.
What a FANTASTIC idea, to have this GN site ... and what a wonderful group that's on it! I look forward to being able to pay it back.
