does anyone keep a journal, in by gone times journals use to be kept by lots of people bt alass they don't seem to be all that popular these days, i don't mean just a travel diary but a life journal,, i use to but have to admit stopped sometime back and have now started to do it again,, not typed out on a computer but hand written in a small book, it's just of things that happen and thoughts and so on but might be good to pass onto kids and such so that can laugh at the "old man", i try to take a few minutes each week to make an entry,, anyway just wondering if it was a bit of a "lost art"

Yep, keep a diary, not only for travelling. Bit different from a journal I suppose as it doest include much personal stuff.

Don't keep a journal, but as a teen was very, very, very shy, soooooooo I wrote a lot of my thoughts and feeling into verse. Only a few weeks ago I came across some of tho poems when I was looking for old photos. Keep writing BB... bought back many memories for me. Ahhhh, how far we travel in this life!!! Not shy anymore..... now I just "bite ankles".LOL

Yep, I too keep a hand written journal of our travels, as well as one that is 'The Mis-Adventures of Crosby T. Bear' (T. for Teddy of course!) that we email to our grand-daughters when we are travelling - they get a kick out of the mis-haps that happen to Crosby, including bum up in a wine barrel at the Historical Village at Miles, getting stuck in a cyclone in Townsville (didn't like that one bit!) and so it goes on - the girls love reading it and where we are, they also have a map to follow as well.

I keep a journal when the mood takes me and I need to get stuff out of my head. As I don't have anyone to discuss the stuff with, I write it down. During my 2+ years in Cairns I collated all "that stuff" into 10 books, compiling stories of similar theme into books of common genre'. Set yourself down at the computer and collate your writing, prose and poetry into books for the family, and yourself. It's very satisfying. Who knows, you could even be published. It's a great way to rethink your thoughts. Keep it up.

Don't keep a journal myself but my great uncle T N Jones did.
He was a POW civilian at Palembang POW camp Sumatra for the duration of the war.
Kept the journal at great peril. Interesting reading and a great insight into that time.

I don't keep a journal, Im not very good at putting my thoughts on paper.......but for some reason when we travel Australia....I become a bush poet! It just comes to me out of the blue, I can be driving or walking or just looking at the stars and seeing such beauty that I have to write it down. And I am so looking forward to doing it again very soon......:o)

I also carry a memo tape recorder. When I'm driving and see the odd place names etc, or something really special which grabs my attention, but I can't write while I'm driving, so I just tell the tape recorder. It's probably a legacy of my journo days, but the tape is handy at times.
