My wife and I have been given tickets to the Australian Outback Spectacular on the Gold Coast.
I'm just sitting down trying to work out the best way to get up there, our kids (Adults) who bought us the tickets suggest flying up, We're in Vic. but I would like to hook up the van and take a drive, up hwy 39 to Coonabarabran then East and up the New England. We can utilise free camps on the way up and back but when we get up there I know there is about four C/Ps fairly handy to where we are heading.
The reason for this post is that I'm looking for input from you good people about these parks, we only intend to stay in the area about three nights.
Thanks in advance..

G'day gubby.
The Gold Coast Holiday Park is good, clean and well run. I have stayed there. It is on Siganto Drive at Helensvale which is very convenient to The Outback Spectacular....which...IMHO....really is spectacular.
Maybe a bit expensive at $36. a night for a powered site....but that's The Gold Coast for you . Have a look and see what you think. Others may suggest somewhere else.
$36 this night $40 the next week And it will be raining cats and dogs..Anyway Palm Beach is $25 per night 19th Avenue Its huge with drive through sites

You'd have to take into account accommodation and ground transport costs. It's some distance from Coolangatta Airport to the northern part of the G.C.

Hi Gubby,
I live in River Gardens Caravan Park at Carrara and found it to be a well run park.
I am not sure but I think that the powered site fees are $22 overnight.
If you decide to come here please contact me I am in site 144.

Carrara is centrally located near the Convention Centre if that is where the spectacular is being housed.

Palm Beach gets our vote, good park with plenty of room.
Initially we stayed at the "Creek" one a few kilometers away, booked in months ahead and tols them the size of the van. When we got there, they tried to put us in a very small site which left the A frame half way over the road. When I complained they said they did not have any other sites.
I had just paid cash for three weeks and asked for my money back.
Sorry. we have a no refund policy!
After a few well chosen facts were presented to them, re "the law" we were given our money back and proceeded to Palm Beach.

Hi gubby
I thought that you wanted a CP near The Australian Outback Spectacular.... that is why I suggested GCHP as it is literally across the road. Both the CP and the Aus O/b Spec are exit 60 off the highway.....Palm Beach is 35 kms away.
Wherever you stay, I am sure that you will have a really great holiday. Hope the rain stops for your visit. Cheers.

Thanks all for your input so far, we are weighing up options, the trip won't be happening until July sometime. The input we are getting we can sort through and work out with location, price, facilities, etc.
It's not the type of area that we would normally put on our agenda, too crowded and commercialised, that is why I'm thinking 3 nights should be plenty.
So any input is greatly appreciated, and yes Lilly flying would be quicker but we would be leaving Tullamarine and landing at Brisbane or Coolangatta, all built up areas, not my idea of a pleasant trip. Give me the open road anytime...
Thanks everyone again

Gubby. I can't help you with the Gold Coast, but I am on the Newell right now. Narrabri, staying at the showgrounds, powered site 14.00 a nite. basic showers and toilets. What more could you ask for. Parked between horse stables, can hear the horses snorting in their sleep.

I live 'just up the road' from the Outback Spectacular Gubby. I'd say Helensvale would be your best for location Gubby.
Others that are close by and which you could check for prices are Dreamtime Caravan park at Coomera or Pine Ridge Caravn Village at Coombabah.
If you want somewhere a bit quieter and more laid back, Gold Coast Tourist Parks at Jacobs Well is a bit further away. Don't let the name fool you, Jacobs Well is a lovely spot close to the bay.
And I'd love to 'meet for a cuppa' too, if time permits.

Another vote for Jacobs Well.
If you must leave anything outside however, make sure you nail it down.
The couple we were traveling with lost their near new Webber BabyQ which we reckon ended up on the deck of a boat in the marina over the back fence of the park.
