Have watched them in the past, very scary. Trying to watch 3 different channels at the moment. can't fit in a 4th.

In 2005 I flew (as a passenger) in a light aircraft from Fairbanks up to Wiseman, about 100 miles north of the Arctic Circle on the Dalton Highway. I said to the mini-bus driver who picked us up that the roadhouse and motel there would be very quiet in winter. He told us about the trucks going up to Prudoe Bay to service the oil rigs in winter and driving out over the ice to access the rigs, He also said that the motel was quite busy with tourists and scientists going up there to to view and study the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights). It was August and the temperature was very mild and pleasant.
Alaska is one of the most awesome places I have ever visited.

They are driving trucks in India now and the mad indian drivers are scaring them sh***ess. One of them said they would rather be on the ice road.

Yep, I started watching that last week and it is on again tonight (wednesday) on Ch 7 after Highway Patrol...scary stuff

My son has driven large trucks for years now and ever since he was a little lad his ambition has been to drive the ice road.
Hope he doesn't tell me when he does it, he can just let me know when he gets back home.
They can make more money in one trip that most of our truckers make in 12 months. (That's not my sons reason though - he just loves his trucks and any sort of challenge involved with them)

I have a son who has been driving road trains and tankers for several years and his ambition is to drive the ice road. His mother is not keen on the idea though.

Went from Islamabad to the Khyber Pass by car and our embassy driver was an ex local taxi driver Just like driving in Melbourne on a Saturday night . Pakistan is a dry country so no fortified drinking before hand to build up courage, spent most of the trip with my eyes closed was scared ****less there and back and not because of the hostiles in the area either

Welcome to Grey Nomad Rastas. I love the proud bloke on the road kill. He's a beauty. I say "bloke" because the male usually holds his place while the "Mrs" hops off to the safety of the shoulder of the road. I hope you enjoy your stay.
As for those adventurous truckies, they can have it. Those ice roads and the narrow, fragile roads through the mountains are for the suicidal. It would be like bungy jumping with a Kenworth. Not me! Travelling on the Aussie roads at the moment is challenge enough for this little pilot driver.
