To get black grease off your hands off your hands after working on the car, try rubbing margarine into your hands then wash off with liquid soap, it orks.
Only problem is if it dissolves grease that well, what is it we are eating

Have to agree with you GS, I think a bit of saturated fat is better than a chemical c0cktail.
(oh sh1t, I was attacked by the asterisk monster again!)

I read an article on margarine, it said it is mostly plastics etc and if you leave some out on a hot day flies and insects won't touch it..
I've always been going to try it but never got around to it..

Cheers,
Sheba.

worked in the Bakery on Thurs Is. forget the name off the stuff, they use it to make the topping on finger buns, jubilee twists etc; we used to use it to wash the grease off our hands if the machines broke down.

Maybe icing sugar? if so it lines up with Sheba's hint.
PS I use liquid Solvol.

Re: Margarine.
I am led to beleive that most margarines are hydrogenated to emulsify the various oils and fats to make the stuff.
Some internet and medical sites say that doing that is not good for us at all.
After readings some of the posts on the subject I might just go back to butter.

We might be better off eating the container and throwing the contents away or using it as hand wash.

I usually don't use either, just go without. But the other day I had the craving so bought a pack from Aldi, Canola spread with a source of Omega 3, Naturally cholestoral free and 39% less sodium. Well, I can't leave it alone, spread on every cracker I can find. Won't be buying another one when this ones gone. If its not there can't use it.

We dont eat margarine at all. When we did years ago, our son would say "Dad pass the industrial grade..." I think he got it right. On the rare occassion we use a spread we use olive oil spread.

I did PM Goldy to suggest it may have been Glycerine, as it's also used in Soapmaking.
Cheers,
Sheba.

Avocado also makes a great spread.... for bread that is, not the back of your hands!... (or if so make sure your hands are clean first so you lick the avo off them!)
(one of the advantages of being solo.....disgusting table manners!)

I use dairy blend vegetable oil and butter. It's tasty, spreadable and in moderation won't grease the hips. A loaf of bread lasts me between 2 and 4 weeks in the freezer, so the spread lasts me about 2 months.

I use the avocado as a spread too. I have 5 of them lined up on the windowsill ripening at the moment. If I don't have them I go without a spread.

A caravan service guy put grease just about everywhere, around the hitch and the tow ball. Very messy on the hands. Even worse now with half a ton of Central Australian red dust sticking to it. What to do?
Back onto the other topic!.... we use low-fat philly as a spread.

If the low fat philly doesn't work on all that grease you may have to resort to a degreaser!

I was told to put a can of coke in washing to clean really dirty/greasy clothing! haven't tried it, and glad I don't drink the stuff either, could just imagine what that does to our insides as well!

Think I will just give margarine a miss all round Neil, either before or after.
I'll stick with the artery clogging butter instead.

My brother worked in a scrap yard in Sydney for many years and the yard next door was a margarine manufacturing place. He will never buy marg, he says the stench was enough for him and the waste product, from memory, had to be taken to a special re cycle place to be disposed of, pretty grose ay.
I only eat butter on my toast, I don't use spread on bread unless it has vegemite on it.
