Noticed your good posts on one of the "other" forums as well. Did you see the one that mentioned about keeping some weight in the back of utes so the van does not take charge of the tow vehicle (roll overs etc), was an interesting read.

Look forward to your input here, a bit more civilized that some others.

You are right,

It always comes down to good balance of the rig (both tow vehicle & Caravam/Camper), I have got the balance of my rig almost perfect, when the van is hooked to the ball, the front of the Colorado raises by less than 1mm (Airbag pressure set at 10lbs). Have not experienced any sway or pitching, and breaking is very good even under heavy application.

Just read your flicker, cripes you have really been through the wars, hope you are on the up and up now. With all the different types of RV you've had your experience and knowledge will really be appreciated here that's for sure.

Good choice with the Colorado too, that would be my choice if I went that way again (back to where I started with a humble campervan again...when I get it on the road that is, some finishing touches on my conversion being done etc).

When I had my Triton ute I had no idea of the "if empty, bag of sand or cement" approach to keep it stable, although it was mostly full when towing my then A'Van camper trailer, but not very much in it when not towing.   They say ignorance is bliss, well until something happens, lol !

Nice looking van John.  Is your tug a six cylinder or 3l turbo diesel?  I have a Holden Rodeo 3l diesel and it pulls the 17 ft pop top quite well.

 Hi Ian,

The Colorado (Isuzu D Max in Drag ) has a 3.0 litre, turbo-diesel, in-line 4 cylinder common rail engine. It is recognised internationally as one of the best available.

The Colorado's performance as a tow vehicle is simply sensational, far far better than I had expected, the fuel consumption too is outstanding @ 12.1L per 100km average for the 3326km round trip (Sydney, Nambucca, Dorrigo Heritage Park, Pomana Qld then Stoney Park and back to Sydney) with 91% of that towing our 2795kg Supreme Caravan, have since replaced the Supreme with the Tuff Roder. The engine develops 120kw Power and 360nm Torque at 1600rpm, (GVM 2900kg and GCM 5900kg),Towing capacity is 3000kg. very impressive to say the least. The Boss Airbags fitted to the rear suspension has made a great difference to the towing characteristics of the rig, I set the air bag pressure at 10psi when towing the current van (with the Supreme I used 25lbs as it was much heavier on the ball). The Colorado is a Isuzu D Max in disguise, only differences are the badge and audio system and some minor cosmetics and of course the most critical and important point is the vast Nation Wide Holden Dealer Service Network compared to Isuzu's Limited and Inferior Dealer/Service network for the D Max. That is why I chose the Colorado over the Isuzu D Max. Replaced the Audio System with an In-Dash Polaris AV/GPS/NAV and 2 x Camera Unit. A 5 or even 6 Speed Auto Gearbox would make this vehicle sensational, but I guess I am nit picking now!
