My wife and i have just taken possesion of a new Owen A van. At a cost of $54,000 we are keen to hold onto it especially as it will be our home for quite a few years while we travel around Aussie (currently in Tassie).I have been reading up on a GPS tracking system that can be used to keep track of the van should it be stolen. This system has a 'GEO fence' that sends a text message to our phone with the coordinates of the vans location, should it be moved from the spot where you left it.
Is anyone out there curently using this or a similar device and if so any feed back would be really appreciated. I will however mention that our current insurer has advised me that there is NO reduction on our monthly premium if this device is fitted !!!!!!

There was some questions raised on a number of motoring forums regarding the effectiveness of tracking devices once outside the built up areas of our capital cities As usual unless it happens within sight of the GPO then those out in the sticks don't get a look in. If insurers don't recognize the value then there is need for caution if setting out to install one . Also are there ongoing fees for monitoring the tracker.
Thanks for the feedback everyone, the unit was quoted at $299.00 and there was the cost of the SIM card.Apart from that nothing else relating to additional costs.I have been advised that if anyone really wants your van (ie proffesionals) they will carry their own coupling and even a 12v angle grinder.Seems like either way you cannot win !!!!!!
