Hi everyone, I'm hoping someone might be able to throw some light on a domestic fridge problem that has started the past 2 days.
I have a fisher and pykel freestanding fridge, probably getting on for 12-14 years of service with no problems in that time. What's happening is the fridge is "popping", that is the best description I can give. I'm no tech head but I can say that there is no water in tray at back of fridge, no obvious heat or continously running. I keep the motor area in clean condition. It doesnt matter if the door has been open or left closed for ages........the "popping"seems to be an indicator of something going on. Both fridge and freezer is cold with no sign of thawing etc.
If you have a suggestion I would love to hear from you,
cheers

Guessing only... could be something to do with the defrost cycle, just expansion and contraction. My home fridge (different brand) does this at times.
Why now and not previously.....I have NFI!

We had F&P side by side fridge & freezer units for around 12yrs til last year. The freezer finally packed it in but I still use the fridge as a XMAS etc back up.
They (not sure which one) were always very noisy with strange cracking or popping noises mainly audible at night when it was quiet. (& maybe during defrost cycle as mentioned previously)
I too put it down to plastic or whatever expanding & contracting.
If you know a reliable F&P accredited repairer they may be able to give an opinion.

I have a Whirlpool fridge, only 10 months old. It is the noisiest fridge that I have ever owned.
After having it checked out and receiving the NFI answer, I resorted to wombat's idea and turned up the music.
Too bad I can't do that late at night though

My fridge is fairly old, Its a Westinghouse and came out of the Cumberland Hotel in Lorne many years ago. It goes through popping spells and then occasionally a ssssssing sound gets quite loud. I open and close the door a few times and it quietens down. Turn up the Tv like we all have to when wombat comes on here making so much noise, it seems nothing stops him.
