Ok, I am in a dilemma. Rick is still researching vehicle/s. We have now headed towards something we had not planned on getting, but we just want to make sure that what we get is what we want and need.
As mentioned before we have a FJR Yamaha Motorcycle to take with us, this is our preferred vehicle for touring around. We intend to go all around Oz on a working holiday. 2 or 3 months here and there, taking our time and hopefully free camping most of the time.
There are two of us and Scamp our little foxy. We are happy with the simple things in life.
Presently we are looking at motorhomes. Reasonably priced afraid the $350,000 are not in our budget haha. We would tow a small hard topped trailer with the bike and various accessories.
We would love your comments on various motorhomes/ small buses; fuel consumption, comfort, ease of travel etc. We know the van we like around a 21' hard top. Towed with a Mazda BT50, with the bike on the tray.
So of you go give us your wonderful knowledge and comments please. Your help would be most appreciated.
Keep safe and happy on your travels, we'll soon be out there, HOPEFULLY haha.

Well it would depend on your age and fittness and how many bikes you take and what and where you want go, motorhomes are great if your using the bikes to do cross country trackimg and the van is good to if you want to take the veh & the bikes and leave the van at a cp or a friends place with the veh and bikes you can carry more water and fuel and swags for out of the way bush trip.
I won't go into fuel you would use because the longer you take and free camp the more fuel youll save.
Hope helps a bit

Have had experience with both Mhs and vans. In my opinion for a working holiday I would go with the 21' van and BT50 etc. With a bike and the ute it would allow each of you to go for jobs in different directions. The cost of the Van and ute second hand would be less than a motorhome in good condition (say a Jayco Conquest at around $80K). Any mechanical problem with the ute, you still have the van to go home to and the bike for transport.
Motorhomes/Campervans are great touring vehicles you can park on prime real estate during the day and enjoy the beach/river frontage/shopping etc and overnight at say a parking bay/rest area.
In my opinion more people are doing the working holiday with vans than mh's.

I'm a Solo, so a Campervan is big enough for me to use as every-day transport as well. And I only have to worry about 1 lot of Rego, Insurance, and Tyres.
Cheers,
Sheba.

While looking around I've seen few of these ......I have no idea what they are worth...
There are vans and motorhomes with "sheds" in them now. They look very versatile for the travelling workers. So many options. So much time. I prefer the van and tug option as this is my full time home. To each his/her own. Look around. Check out van shows and yards for new and used. Former rental motorhomes might have what you want. My neighbour here in this park is converting a former 42 seater coach to a motorhome. There are so many complications right down to the registration. Depending on states of course. The upside of a coach coversion is the shed space underneath which can be used for washing machines, bikes and storage. Good luck in your search.

Thanks guys and gals for the advice. Have checked out thetoy haulers, a bit pricey.
looks like we are back on track with the Mazda BT50 and a 18 to 20' Van. Checked through the net on complaints and problems with Motorhomes and found there were quite a few.
Will keep you up to date with the news on the purchases, hopefully to happen soon. Looks like we've sold the house, so things are looking good.
Regards and safe travelling,

Jeannette , like people have allready mentioned , it is choice . I prefer campervan .
I had a C1300 International bus - seats out we had 18ft , comfortable for 2 & 1/3 ,
well he was little then . If you added th driving area & bonnet , it was 26', it was on gas .
Just on 3 ton all up . We drove it everywhere , check in to park then go & find a caff or
roadhouse for some tea , it only took a couple of secs to pullcurtains . One or two nights
a week while we were travelling we would do a motel , on my own it was big enough.
As I did , if you are not into anything off the beaten track , except the odd dirt road .
I would be thinking a converted smaller bus , most of fitting are a bit tougher than a
factory unit , hence I could go just about anywhere , as previously mentioned on this
board , I did not go to Jim Jim falls - Kakadu .

I like the motorhome but ended up with a 200 foot caravan and 4x44 tug. It's definitely a personal choice.

Obj dear, I meant 20 foot but it's really only 19 with an extra foot in the drawbar & a 4x4.
