Has anyone done the trip from Bourke to Wilcannia along the Darling with a van ?
If so what were the conditions like regarding the road?
Any info welcome. Thanks.

I went down the Darling River Run in Oct/ Nov 2009. But the conditions would have been very different to that of today, it was still in drought then. So I am sorry I am of no benefit to you. But keep a good eye out for emus & goats.

Hi ..
I'll be watching the replies with interest.
Our experience would be of no value to you.
We went down there in an old FE Holden in 1968.
Crossed over to the western side of the river at Louth. The track was good, just wheel tracks from property to property. Had to use chains when we struck a downpour just outside of Wilcannia. Didn't stop at Wilcannia because of groups of locals eyeing each other off from opposing sides of the street.
We will be passing that way next month on the way to SA, but will stick to the blacktop & hope to pick a free camp somewhere just before Wilcannia.

Hello Cupie, we are leaving this week & heading Moree, lighting ridge area, then accross to SA & Flinders, May see you on the track over there.

Don't even try if the road is wet.
If the road is dry it is a great trip on the eastern side with plenty of camping. Make sure you call in at Shindy's in at Louth and also the Tilpa Pub both are worth the visit and at both they will guide you to good camping spots. Just take your time keep the speed down, enjoy enjoy.

As usual, ask the locals as your go. Wilcannia hasn't changed. The burgers at Tilpa are yummy. Went through that way in May on the job. Have a safe trip.
