Even though is prominent Qld news, it gets a very clear hearing on the news here in SA. It was a prominent topic when I was in Cairns, and it must be heart-breaking for his family. I was surprised to hear they had someone alleged to be the perpetrator of this crime, arrested in Perth. As the days go on they seem to be recovering more and more evidence hopefully relevant to the missing lad. The Police must have more idea now than way back when the boy went missing, where the remains may be. If the accused maintains his innocence, I doubt the Police are receiving information from him, so why are they searching this area now and not before? A lot of questions not yet answered. It must be awful for that family.

They have been saying on the new that undercover police spend a lot of time with the person they arrested at the caravan park in W.A. So information they may have got from that time i suppose

I wondered that too CG, Police must have had more info why they are searching in the right area only now.
Hopefully the family of Daniel will be able to lay him to rest soon. They certainly have shown wonderful courage and love.

He was actuall arrested in Qld by Qld Police CG, he had been lured back to Qld on the pretext of helping Qld with their enquiries as he had admitted passing through the general area where Daniel went missing, taken there to that area and then arrested.
Undercover WA Police had been living in the Crystal Brook Caravan Park at Orange Grove, Perth (not far from the airport) where he was living and monitoring him for some months without him being aware of it (Sunday Times Perth 21st August 2011).
A good example of co-operation between state police forces.

Ah, so that's very reassuring to learn the cops are actually out there doing their stuff. We knock them often, but when I hear something like this, my faith is sort of restored.

The article said that he was acting as an unofficial caretaker in the caravan park, doing odd jobs and helping out old folks etc, not baby sitting for anyone I hope, but I think the police there would have been making sure he didn't get to do anything with kids otherwise they would have been down on him like a ton of bricks.
