Hello all Further to my previous post about this matter I have received a reply from them, see below and it looks like they are at least looking into it and we will hear more later. Ken
Dear Mr Thomas,
Your email exchange with RACV on the above subject has been passed on to me.
I agree with your observation regarding the size of caravans that are sold today - and I will ask the relevant manager to commence a review of our products that cover caravans (Extra Care and Total Care).
As it is, our towing equipment is not specified to the levels required for larger caravans. So, if/when our product review confirms the number of caravans longer than 6.7m (ie the maximum covered by Total Care), our solution will - in all likelihood - come at an additional cost to members with these vehicles.
I will keep you informed on progress of this project. It is likely that I will have an update in November, after we have completed (a) an assessment of the number of vehicles in question, (b) the location of recent breakdowns and (b) the costs associated of providing service to these vehicles.
Thank you for bringing this matter to my attention.
Yours sincerely,

It's good that they got back to you Ken and good that they are going to review their limitations but WHY should it cost us extra just because we have a van that is just a tad longer than they have specified.
The majority of vans on the road I would guess could well be in excess of their 6.7, I know ours is 7.1

Good onya Ken, finally getting somewhere. Maybe everyone with Total care and a longer than their requirements van need to write so they have some idea of numbers. Otherwise where will they get their correct figures from.

Gday...
Because if they need to get a tilt-tray truck to transport the caravan, it will not only be more difficult to find a tilt-tray long enough (especially in 'remote' areas) but will also cost more to hire.
Cheers

Of course you are right John. Just a knee jerk reaction on my part.

Gday...
No probs Ma ..... I only realised when my van lost a wheel (the whole hub etc) and they had to get a tilt-tray ..... took them hours to locate one and then had to wait until it was available. Apparently cost about 50% more than a 'normal' tilt-tray.
Cheers (and I don't ever want to have to use one again )

Well done Ken! It only takes one to speak up in a sensible fashion, stating the facts in sensible form, and things do get done. To get a response is another point on your score board. Now folks, we can all do this if we just speak up. It does no good to just sling crap in an abusive letter or email just criticising the organisation. A practical, logical alternative suggestion will always get some positive action. Well done Ken!

Hi all We have RACV Total Care and have the best support from them. Must admint have not had to call them with a caravan problem, but in the last 12 months have used them 3 times for car/tyre problems. They were so helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Quickly organised pick up and towing for our car and caravan; booked and paid for a caravan site and supplied a hire car for the time it took to fix our car. It was 11 days in Alice Springs waiting for parts! And a week in Broome. Their follow up was great also. This is our experience. Cheers Glenda

We are too big for RACQ so they only cover our Suzuki we tow behind now. The cost of being taken back to Kalgoorlie from 600+kms across towards the east was $3,500. I'm still winging about it.

Because Esmeralda is so petite, I make it under the limit with room to spare

Hey Esmeralda, what about the poor bloke on the scooter - I hope the RACV cover him adequately.

I don't believe that RACV covers scooters without the home on the back but they make an exception in his case!!
