Hi, Reading the Isis town and country edition newspaper today and reference has been made regarding the parking area at Childers.
It has been recorded that caravanners and Motor home travellers have been breaking into the power box and stealing power.
Childers is well known for its hospitality and provides a parking area to cater for travellers to shop, top up water tanks and use of a dump point.
Just north of childers is Apple Tree Creek and this is a free camp area.
With all the chat about free camping and travellers being worried about losing camping areas I dont think stealing power or abusing the locals will help their cause.
I hope the people of this site would report this sort of abuse by recording regos and giving to police. I Know I will

Hi FrankW...and welcome...
Childers is a great little place...and that news disgusts me.
Why anyone would abuse such hospitality in this way is totally beyond me, and probably many others here.
I'm no dobber...but if witnessed, I would certainly report behaviour like that.

Welcome to the forum Fank and thank you for the update though unfortunately not good news.
I am with TB, I'd report the abuse and damage to property as well.

"I'm no dobber"
The above is a misnomer,
All good Australians look after their mates, persons stealing from other Australians and others of like interests are not mates and have coming to them what ever gets dished out their way. Put them in I say, but do it in a way that does not put you at risk. Crimestoppers is the very avenue for doing this, national number these days.

Thats unfair to the rest of us who do the right thing. They need to be reported. I hadn't realised those facilities were available in Childers, which is the next town to my son in Biggenden. I know of Cherry Tree of course.

It only takes the selfish, irresponsible actions of 1 to stuff it up for everyone else, forever. They deserve to be dobbed in and suffer the consequences. Just make sure you don't approach the trouble-makers and put yourself at risk.

.. but be very sure if you make a statement where you are personally accusing someone for a criminal action ..
It was done against me when I was totally innocent of the incident .. and the courts ruled well in my favour ..

If you find an area that has these facilities then you have won first prize, these morons want the consulation prize as well , we do not need them & they will be the first to complain when these areas are closed. I would have some thing to say about it.
I have already had a go at a couple of lots earlier this year in the outback about wasting water from the tanks provided at some rest areas. Leaving taps running while they wash dishes, even having a bath under the tap & they were not Aussie's.
These are the free standing tanks with no catchment, so some one has to fill them.

It's so unfair when the stupid actions of a few wrong'uns spoil it for the rest of us. We free camp when we can but always leave the area nice & tidy & where possible put money in an honesty box etc. We also try & patronise local businesses.

And that's the way it's meant to be. I find some of the backpacking foreigners can be very selfish and blind to the needs of those who follow them. Europeans in particular. They just don't understand the precious water in the outback, and the vast distances between these facilities. I have politely pointed out these services and the isolation of these services. Sometimes it's well received, while at other times I seem to grow 2 heads and my skin goes green. That's life.

Have stayed in quite a few free camps and have only came upon 1 honesty box, was more than happy to contribute to help keep such a lovely spot (Jericho) available to fellow travellers like us.
