I am confused regarding tare, towball weight, atm etc. We are still in the process of selecting both van and tow vehicle.
Van number 1 is 2100kg tare and towball weight 190kg.
Van 2 is 2400kg tare and 210kg towball weight
Prado will tow 2500kg, and Pajero 3000kg (but over 2501kg ballweight is 180kg)
How is ATM determined and will the Prado or Pajero legally tow these vans.
Your expertice is welcomed to unconfuse me
Thanks
Mr Ed

You may find something in these Collyn Rivers articles that may help (see Dynamics in particular);

Tare is the empty weight of the van. DO NOT BELIEVE what is stated unless you actually see it weighed. It does not include any 'stuff' and will also not include any additions (air conditioners, batteries, microwave etc) added since original manufacture. Many tares are not accurate even if no modifications have been done. BEWARE.
ATM is the LEGAL maximum that the van is permitted to weigh (determined by manufacturer according to the engineering of the chassis, wheels, tyres, brakes etc), including full water, gas, food and personal belongings, etc, etc. All that 'stuff' is likely to weigh 300 to 500kg (or more), so a great deal of care is required to avoid being illegal and overloading your tug.
Cheers, Peter

Thanks for your replies. I think I might take the advice from signwilson and go the lancruiser. Should I be looking at the later 200 series.

Depends on how deep your pockets are.
The LC 100 TD 5 speed auto, mid [May?] 2005 on, is robust, efficient and a nice drive for men and women.
