just travelled from northern west aust to townsville.every state we were in gave severe fire warnings.if the country hadn't already burned it was ready to go.
the biggest problem we saw was every free camp we stopped at most caravaners and backpackers lit fires no matter how hot it was.seems people are just infatuated with fire.
luckily no bush fires were started which i feel was more good luck than good management

Now thats a thought. Shouldn't those campfires be banned at a time like this. It's too much of a risk.

TOTAL fire ban in Qld until the end of the year at this point. http://www.ruralfire.qld.gov.au/
They are not even issuing permits to burn the cane any more.
According to the news there will be no permits issued and no fires of any description to be lit which to me means campfires too.
Minimum $500 find and or gaol time for anyone caught lighting a fire. They are very serious about it here.
