To all those that that formed their own conclusion about my last post , re ring pulls.
You are all wrong, it is not a email going around, nor is it a joke or anything else of that nature.
This is the real thing with no bullsxxt attached. I have known about this for some time & rediscussed it with a very close friend of ours only minutes before I posted it.He is very highly ranked in the Lions clubs, he has also formed a special branch of Lions called , Lions On Auz, for those members that are travelling.
This branch of the club holds it's monthly meetings on line. At the last cash in of the ring pulls they handed over one & two thirds of a large sulo bin of ring pulls, If you wish I can get the total weight & dollar value if you so wish.
I have travelled with these people & watched them collect these Items, mine as well.In Warrialder A few weeks back when we were there , there was a box on the counter of a take away shop requesting ring pulls.
You may wish to rethink your comments.

We were collecting them too Just Crusin for a charity group, and delivering them to a collection point, I think they were using the titanium for making artificial limbs for children who had lost limbs from land mines in Cambodia or somewhere. Definitley not a hoax.
By the way, while in Kalgoorlie a couple of days ago, saw a motorhome with Just Cruzin on the front........

There is another group who collects corks. The funds go to making a disability aid, not sure what it is now. I know my sister collects all her corks from wine bottles and passes them on.

I think a lot of it is just co-incidence, great minds think alike. I don't have a name on mine, just a pic of a map of Oz and the Southern Cross!

My next door neighbour has been collecting these ring pulls for his local RSL (Victoria), then Lions I believe, for years.
He collects them all over, returning from his regular GN trips to FNQ with bags full, as some of the Caravan Parks where he is a regular save them for him.
He told me they were for artificial limbs somewhere, maybe like Vic said.
Me I dont care what happens to them, just save my couple a day (maybe more in summer) and when my sandwich snap lock bag is full I give them to him.
No big deal, and if it does help someone/some charity that can only be good.
BTW I also crush my Al cans and when a rubbish bag is full I give it to the grandies for their school, though nowadays the cans are not worth what they were a few years back.

Whatever their value, they are worth something as recycled metal.

We used to collect them at work, I thought it was an urban legend until I met the guy involved with the charity. Not that not thinking it was factual stopped me collecting them, I still did it, on the chance that it was true.

Dont you pay an extra 10c for an Al can etc in SA to encourage recycling. Something that has a lot of merit.
In Victoria you just get the scrap metal price if you recycle yourself at a scrap yard, nothing if you put it the Council recycle bin.
Some schools, for example, collect the cans as a means of getting extra funds.
