Yep!! She's in hospital again. The funny noise sounded like marbles rolling around in a concrete mixer by the time I got her there yesterday. That was the description I gave Sam and he said perfect description.
Its not much dearer to replace than to repair and much more satisfying knowing I will have peace of mind after its done.
Get her back tomorrow midday. I left Miss Marples in the passenger seat to keep her company.

Glad your getting it all sorted, Myrtle is going to be spot on by next winter for your trip north.

Thats what I'm thinking HeadnHome, no use getting stressed about it anymore. Just work my way through it as it gets thrown at me knowing by April I should have it all perfect for a nice long trip up north. I had the choice Boroma but Sam knew I would say replace. He said Good I have already ordered it. Said he could have sent it back if I said no. No use repairing old bits that are 30 years old and worrying about whether its going to last. He's such a great guy after the other duds. Communicates at every turn.
What a good friendly mechanic!! Myrtle is safe in his hands I'm sure. Goodonya HW, it all just gets better and better.

Hey it's great that you have a good mechanic now and that any leftover bugs are happening now rather than on a long trip. At least the major hassles are dealt with but what a huge ordeal you have had already without even hitting the road. All should be good from now on.

No Jonathan, She won't wash ever again.
Elle, theres bound to be other bits needing fixing between now and when I head off for winter. I do know I have to get 2 new tyres as well. All the creases should be ironed out in the next few months.

Gee Marj, considering where you started with Myrtle, you sure have come a long way to get her up to a reliable standard, and with the help of a friendly, helpful, reliable, honest mechanical advisor, you should be a formidable team on the nomad circuit. YOU GO GIRLS!!! (Marj & Myrtle). And I mean that in the best, most supportive way I could muster. YOU GO GIRLS!!!

So, let me get this right...... Myrtle was going great, Gubby kissed her, then Myrtle got sick, and now she's in hospital again.
Not making any assumptions here, but if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, its a duck !
Got Myrtle back mid arvo, with a new alternator. $275.00 later. Won't be going too far over the next fortnight. But she is running very smoothly, so I'm pleased.

Marj,
A new alternator is a wonderful thing ! The headlights should be brighter, the batteries will be charged faster and perhaps the radio will even sound better.

Really SN. I hadn't realised that. Thought it would be just the batteries. Good news all round.

Marj if it was only the bearings getting noisy the the alternator was probably still working fully, so you may not notice any difference apart from being quieter...
Great news she's mobile again....

Will be ok now Marj - had a bit of trouble myself the other day, was having difficulty getting into first gear from standing - anyway friend convinced me I should take the car down to mechanic - he fiddled a bit, put it up on the hoist, decided maybe changing gear oil would help - should have seen the gunk that came pouring out - Norma says -"that's your gears coming out of there girl!" - anyway, problem still there - so on further investigation Brad found that the framework actually holding the clutch pedal had come loose - need urgent repairs - lucky got onto it now - leaving for down south on Saturday!!!!

Thanks Gubby, He did say the whole thing was worn but I could only here the noise and had no problems starting her.
Jules, I knew you must have been close to leaving. Thank goodness that problem was found before you left. Have a safe trip and see you all soon.

Well done Marj's mechanic! I'd be suspicious about the hug that Gubby gave Myrtle too.
