Just spent 3 days on the Murray River at Yarrawonga in perfect weather with nomad friends.
Was able to do some kayaking which was great but paying the price now with aching muscles I didn't know existed. Just got to toughen up, getting too soft over winter.
At the back of the spillway near the two hydo generators there a thousands of european carp eating the algae off the cement. Some enterprising ozzie should start up a cat food enterprise to save importing it from overseas. Looks like there back in big numbers again and all about 2 foot in size.
It was a great break and looking forward to doing it again soon.

A very pretty spot indeed, the pain must have been worth it.
Yarrawonga is also the birth place and HQ of the A'Van Club of Australia (folding type A'Vans only).

Pauline - Not really "I am the modest type".
Just spreading the news that the Murray is a great destination for nomads to spend a few days.
Great avatar - The cat was good but the jiving under moonlight is "way cool".

The Murray is definately on my wish list, I thought i had better give the cat a bit of a rest, she was starting to look quite stressed.

Vic -Yes the Murray @ Yarrawonga is a great spot, as for the pain - The jury is still out on that one.

In Deniliquin there is a company using carp to make fertiliser for home gardeners.
The product is called Charlie Carp

rastas: - Charlie Carp sounds just the place for the mongrel things. Would only have to convince The Murray Darling Commission, two state governments and then there's Julia & Tony. That would be a challange. Bugger!!!! - Back to the drawing board. It's enough to make you grumpy.
(Unfortunately its a "No Go Area"for boats & people behind the weir because of the water turbulance coming from the hydro power outlets)

In Qld we have a charity fishing comp called Carp Busters. They infest the Logan and surrounding rivers as a farmer put some in a canal to clear out the weeds, and they went, as usual, feral.Last year I thinks they caught 2.5 tons, and the fish were turned into fertilizer, the the proceeds going to Rotary,if my memory is correct.There are MORE carp in the Murray, so it might be a good idea to do something similar.I love Yarrawonga, and usually camp at a spot called "the beach" about 6 klms west in the NSWforestry reserve. Fishing is good and its free and close to town.

I Love Yarrawonga! Spent many a New Years Day getting sunburnt at the Yarrawonga regatta in my youth. (suffering for that sunburn now) Carp make a fairly good cat-food, the kids used to catch them anywhere on the Murray..... I used to cook 'em in the pressure cooker for a few minutes, then the bones can be removed easily and the cats love it.

CHiChi: - Lake Mulwala is full again and back to normal. Apparently they empty the lake to kill off the water weed which becomes a problem. Cheers, John
