Hi all, this is totally unrelated to the nomad lifestyle, so I hope you don't mind me posting this here.
I am wondering if there are any members in Brisbane who have any leftover or unwanted timber that they would like to get rid of? I am on a pension and looking to make a hobby of woodworking and toy making. Free or low cost is best - I can collect.
I also wouldn't say no to any unwanted or excess tools that you might have lying around taking up space.
Many thanks
Dave

it is related to GN's because I am sure you will not be making toys for yourself to play with I assue you will be giving these away to kids in need, so a good hobby to have.
Also suggest you go to a few wood yards and explain what you are doing and ask if you could call round every so often to collect some of their offcuts, I'm sure some would not mind, they can only say yes or no.
Sorry we are unable to help as postage from WA would be very expensive.

Watch for garage sales, my partner has picked up some really good timber, and some tools too in clearing-out sales. Good luck!

Hi Dave,
sorry I don't have any timber but there is a site called 'freecycle' where people advertise what they no longer want and people advertise what they do want within reason. don't expect you to get a diamond ring but left over timber you are in with a chance. good luck. rocket and strop

A few years ago I had the bug to do something similar and I went arount to all the cabinet makers and kitchen makers and asked if I could raid their scrap bins, I got a lot of stuff at the time, mainly pine and mdf.
Don't know how you would go now, but worth a try

Gee when I left Brisbane I had nearly 2 ton of seasoned timber for turning etc. Could not give it away till a fellow answered on Woodies forum and gave him the lot for $100. There was some very expensive timber but I did not want to let it get burned.
Check the woodies forum on ubeaut.com.au and put a request there.

Dave83, also, check out if there is a Men's Shed near by to you that you could join. You can use there tools, and meet some great people. We are currently on the road permantly, and Mr D gets his "shed fix" by rocking up to Mens Sheds in towns we visit. He recently completed his Gas bottle BBQ at the Mens Shed in Winton, using their tools, and managed to pick up some free bits of metal for the task as well. Google Men's Shed and see what you can find.

You learn something everyday...I always thought "mens Sheds" were a myth Dunmowin...what a great idea, there is one at woodridge Dave.....do you think that is too far away.
