Hi everyone its been awhile but I've have finally started my journey in Vic at the moment heading up to Mt Beauty in Jan has anyone stayed there. Also heading to mildura to try getting on the harvest trail to see what its like has anyone got any advice for me and what is it like?

We have stayed at Mt Beauty, very good little park right on the river, it was winter so we had snow capped mountains in the back ground & the drive up to Falls Creek was spectactular.

You might like to suss out harvest work around Shepparton - tomato season soon. Do you have fork lift ticket - can help to get harvest work. Actual harvesting work can be pretty tough - packing/shed work easier. That applies to mangoes, in my experience.

Hi wendy thanks for that info no fork lift licence have a heavy rigid if that helps me I'm a single nomad want to travel around and work not back breaking thou

Hi just crusing good to hear me well i will be there in the summer so no snow caps but what i have seen on line looks really lovely cant wait to leave the suburbs of vic

Would you consider doing one of the short (1 day?) food handling certificate courses? There's often work going up north in the tourist season. With no qualifications other than being a home cook, I've had work cooking at a cafe (Top End NT) and tourist accommodation places (remote Qld & NT). Much work up north is not advertised in media or on job sites - places just put a notice in the window.
Your heavy rigid licence might get you work driving shuttle buses from airports and the like.

Hi wendy yes no problem who I contact to find out more I have cooked for shearers around dozen guys mains desserts cakes etc my ex and I had our own sheep farm but has been awhile.

Noelene, Places like TAFEs, local Community Houses etc run courses like food handling, alcohol service, etc. Have a look in local papers, also the back pages of the Saturday state newspaper. You will be better qualified than I was, to get some cooking work! Sometimes roadhouses in remote parts are looking for short order cook, and will take you on if you promise to stay 3 months. Staying that sort of time in one place lets you really get to see it properly, including parts that tourists don't usually get to. You won't make a fortune, but you won't be spending much, either. I've had friends pick up supermarket checkout work in towns like Katherine, Kununurra, Yulara, Alice Springs - again a commitment to stay 3 months was required.
