no one is fully on the road, theres friends and rellies at home/work/school.
my proposal is travellers security for travellers in KNOWN remote locations.
We can all lookout for eachother. Start a STICKY post for one purpose ONLY.
those travelling post WHERE they are NOW,how long and where their current INTENDED route will be.
Once Daily ppl on the forum should spare a minute to SEE if their post has been UPDATED like "Moved onto xxx staying for 3 days".
IF the expirey date comes n goes and NO update then we'd call them [IF signal permits] .
Im suggesting this without full details in mind as others will have a much safer way for US to look after our travelling friends.
Hec,we're here playing and having fun daily. why not spare a minute for our grey rellies.....
This System WILL work IF you notify the Forum WHEN youve got ph signal.
Is it a worthwhile idea? or just keep going top the police station and leaving details there of our intended plans ?
We are all brothers n sisters here folks even if a little grey.
Cheers Rod.
Please,in the interrest of our travelling families safety constructive comments.

Rod the idea has merit, if we don't look after each other then we would be a sad lot indeed, mind you when I travel I do not have Internet access at all, I leave the Laptop at home and get away from it all.

Rod, its not a bad idea.
And it does rely on those that are interested taking a laptop with them. A lot of people dont have laptops.
And at the same time we are on an open forum, and there are undesirable individuals out there that may take advantage of knowing where we are, or where we are not, and thats at home. I think our profiles would need to be edited so as not to identify us or where we reside.
Geez you're clocking up the posts Rod. Do you still welcome newbys at the other forum?
Cheers Ross

never thought of that.
my original idea was for remote travellers. everyone else has traffic coming /going on highways so theres no issues there.
my opinion was someone doing a desert track expecting to come out the other end in a few days / week.
no internet? then maybe a quick ph to confirm youre out the other side then then the recipient posts it here to confirm.
ive seen ppl walking out of tracks cause they used the CARS start battery to run things, perfect car just flat battery, but if its too far to walk out...
Summer here kills and eventho we know theres a LOT of ppl still willing to gamble, its amazing things you see.

Rod....this idea definitely has merit BUT my concerns would be for security as it is a very public forum.
Mobile/Internet service is often a problem as well and can be for days possibly even weeks at a time.
I personally think need to keep it limited to family and friends be they personal friends or forum friends when it comes to travel.

We always update close family, and the website for the EPIRB before going anywhere, especially if we'll be without any signal.

Personally I don't like to announce on the forum if we are going away as it is also advertising when your home is empty. This is an open forum and there are also a lot of registered members who reside in the background so to speak. Perhaps those that feel the need could PM other members their movements but they are possibly already doing that anyway.

If we see any one in trouble we stop to ask it they are ok just common curtasy .We did see a nasty accident in the outback of the Northern Territory a car and caravan sort of jack knifed off the road 100klm from any help,We stopped and someone had already stopped to inform the next road house for help. while we were there a van behind us stopped to, so we do look after someone in need, When we arrived at the road house we asked to make sure it had been reported and yes it had.

epirbs a positive way in dire emergencies as justcrusing01 said.
Personally we're saving for a satphone and plan to use the subsidy
TY Pam for the genuine input, appreciate perfectly where youre coming from. I have a Social only chat with a few forum members [mostly other forums] and besides the usual where are you now i put it in a book just in case. So Pam,your method is solid and reliable assuming the area has signal cheers rod

sorry Cannylass,i didnt see your post.
its honestly good to see ppl helping out,its phasing out gradually sadly with foreign travellers just driving by without any guilt.
