I sat for about an hour today, reclined in my easy chair and just closed my eyes
I heard the sounds of many different bird calls, some I knew and many I did not.
I heard the sounds of the breeze in the leaves of the trees and the gentle ripple of the creek, punctuated only by the occasional sound of a splash by a bird diving into the water for a cooling drink.
And at my feet, the chatter of a family of Apostle birds.
Now I ask.......How magical is the music of this orchestra in the bush.

Add to that the refreshing smells of the bush and the clear night skies with a million stars.
That is the reason we have been bush campers for years.

It's amazing how many people don't understand about the sounds of the bush.

Wow Baroma what a great opportunity to sit for an hour and just listen. How many people would have that or even know they had the choice of doing that or even appreciae the value of it. I have not heard an apostle bird - it's a qld bird is it not?

The bush is a magical place and I feel sorry for all those people who have never experienced the wonder and magic of the sounds of the bush, they are truly missing out on one of life's wonders.

No Elle, not specific to Qld at all. Some people call them Happy Jacks, we call them Arky Squarkys.
Here are some pics, the first is of a bird just as he/she was emerging from the creek after a bath. The second is at Silverton earlier this year.
I especially like their sense of family and chatter..though many people do not like them.
Each state has it's specials and some have their special names for the same bird. As I read the initial threat my head filled with the sound of thunder overhead here in Adelaide right now. That took me back to the Kimberley and the storms the rolled across the night sky. And then I remembered the sounds of the curlews in Cairns. I miss that. I miss the cuckoo pheasant's quaint cry in the bush around Broome and the region, while the babblers get on with family business. We are so lucky.
