There were so many (massive) trucks between campbelltown, through the tunnel and just after the airport.
When would be a quieter time to travel this route.

That can be very scary, especially if you're towing a van. Most trucks leave their depots in the afternoon or early evening, so they can deliver at their destination as soon as it opens for business. I don't know what Sydney's traffic is like specifically, and I don't really understand why it was so busy at that time, unless they were on their way back to their depots to reload. Early arvo might be preferable. In reality there aren't many times of the day when road transport is quieter. This country depends on road transport so much of the demise of the rail systems. Before 9 could be ok because of certain curfews to keep heavy transport out of the metro area during peak periods. Then that is no good to the nomads either. My suggestion would be to avoid this one and pick another city. I hate Sydney.

Zj , that is th route to Pt Botany , plus you are going to get heaps of trucks servicing factories in eastern suburbs . . Port Botany has 3 container terminals , so it can be busy from 0600 to 10pm -midnight. . Sorry folks it is peak hour nearly all day in Sydney now . I try to go against the flow , eg if it is peak am , I will head out of town , in the afternoon I will head in . But ya an't pick it as I said - Shopping centres , schools , factories & nomad wobblies not knowing where they are going , all adds up to traffic congestion . Thats why I live where I am - maybe 20-30 cars , 3-4 log trucks , half a dozen wobblies , 2-3 rv's & that is in peak time , oh & 1 school bus in 1 day.

Were you heading north (as in further up the coast)??? If so you should have taken the M7 which bypasses the busy part of Sydney and at that time of day would not be overly busy (normally). Cheers Patto

Yep I'll third that. If I go through Sydney I try to make it on a Sunday morning. Not that I'm scared of traffic but it is so much quicker.

re trucks in Sydney -as long as you get into your own lane and stay within it- no problem as they do the same. Most are just professional drivers trying to earn a living.
I'd actually rather deal with the truck than hot head hoons ducking and weaving across lanes, and ducking infront of me while I'm braking.
Hi All,
came into Sydney, travelleing north at 11:30am.
