I have been trying to get the right balance between comfort and fuel economy, and think I have a solution. I have bought a 97 diesel ford courier4wd with a winnabago slide on. I tried a Holden one tonner, with a camper built on , but after getting 5.5klms to the ltr(15 mpg!) , I sold the holden, and have bought the Courier. I have always been a diesel man, and the prior owner says he gets 10klms to the ltr, nearly double the holden. I fly down to Brisvegas tommorrow, and will drive the ford back.I will tell you how it goes. This one has all the mod cons, such as a tv/dvd , sterio, fans, the lot.Should be good trip. Bill
Well me heartie, if you are flying down to brisbane, do you want to swing by and pick up THE BOAT ESKY.

Dunno, but it has a QLD roadworthy and gas cert. The prior owner replaced the front suspension bushes, andther doesn,t seem to be much else wrong.Bill

Hey Bill - looks great. Re fuel, there's 5 litres to the gallon so 5.5 kms/ltr + 27.5 km to the gallon which is roughly 15 miles to the gallon which is possibly what you meant? cheers

Yes , 15 miles to the gallon!I was working on 4.5 ltrs to the gallon.Thats why I have sold the Hj holden. $75 to do 180 miles! too heavy on fuel, but a lovely old vehicle. The Courier should be a lot better, and I can take the slide on off and use the ute, instead of having two vehicles. I might have to pension off the old hilux.

I was brought up in inches and feet, and did my trade in imperial measurement, but now use both. Metric is easier, but I can,t visualize so many ltrs per 100 klms.So I do the calculation , and work out the miles per gallon.Say you have a vehicle that does 10klms to the ltr- multiply per 4.5ltrs per gallon, and divide by .621(.621klms to the mile), and you get 27.45 miles to the gallon(pretty good in my opinion). The hilux did 21 miles to the gallon, and the Holden202 did 15 miles to the gallon. The ford should get at least 25 mpg. It will be interesting to see. Fuel is my biggest expense when I travel, and will only get dearer. What are your consumtion figures, mpg , and klms per ltr? Bill

Well, i,m back at must say the new bus went great. It does between 8 and 9 klms to the ltr ,23 or 24 mpg, even with the bagel on the back , and that is comfortable , too.No dramas or breakdowns, its a good vehicle.Must thanks the Animalcarers, their hospitality was legend, and , also saw Pete at Scarborough. He was making a batch of his infamous home hooch.Am going to try to take the slide on off the back of the courier this arvo, or tommorrow. The speed is 15% out, but I have a gps which I used to get accurate figures.Another toy! seeya soon, Bill
