Sadly, I seem to have to look up the dictionary a lot these days.
And I seem to get dislexic at night.
Please tell me I'm not the only one.

I have always been bad at spelling, so I dont know if it is getting worse or not. I also hunt and peck typest, that dont help either. To solve this I became an engineer, so I would fit in.

I have a habit of correcting my kids, mostly my daughter, with spelling and punctuation, along with two young friends, on facebook. It's all done in jest, of course, but if I'm now going downhill too, how am I going to correct them anymore!
Yes, I'd like to do the same on here, but it may not be taken in jest.

Yes it is!....try it! every one of the words in my post is spelt correctly! A spell checker is not intelligent and cannot pick up words that are spelt correctly but used out of their correct context.

I've always been fussy with spelling and punctuation. I guess my teachers did a good job on me, and my grandmother finished it off when I did my homework. The the journalism gave me outlet for my punctuation and spelling. How's that for opportunity? I'm fussy about commas etc, tenses and all that relevant English stuff. I don't like to correct others, but I do try to do it right myself. Occasionally I do spelling mistakes here because my fingers don't spell as well as my head does.

I am very fussy about my spelling, grammar and punctuation - and sometimes I have a hard time working out what some people are saying (or should I say typing). However perserverance gets me there in the end. When I went to both primary and secondary school you lost marks for not spelling and punctuating properly; so you made very sure.
Well I had to pass somehow!!!

I know how you feel, I seem to remember I was pretty good at spelling when I was young but not now. Thankfully Hylda is an english teacher so she proof reads often when i write things & is a handy instant dictionary. Also much more pleasant to ask than the online ones.
Cheers
Jon

Love that Jon! Unfortunately my "assistant speller" is not as good looking as Hylda and his spelling is as bad as mine!

Look at all this that I missed last night!
Jimricho...tricky, but you are right!
CG...I've always noticed your excellent writing skills.
Esmerelda... proving my point!
Rosie...reminds me of a text received from my brother 'dummy lock the gate'...I'm thinking, why is he calling me dummy?
Jon...lucky she's a baby boomer teacher, this generation of teachers can't spell. My niece is one of them.
I find I also do a lot more typing mistakes with the laptop, as opposed to the desktop PC.
And lastly, I know that ..... is not correct punctuation!

I realise that incorrect spelling, punctuation and grammar upsets some of us here.
Isn't the idea though just for us all to communicate and share our thoughts and ideas in a friendly format.
Some of us didn't have the chance to complete our schooling but still try to do the best we can even if (shock horror) mistakes are made
