Thanks Beth, interesting story. People have been taken on that crossing fishing despite all the warning signs.

Cahill,s crossing is the gateway to Arnem land and a great place to catch a barra or two. But its also the home of some of the biggest crocs in OZ.An aboriginal man was taken in knee deep water the week before I was there, and a big croc, 4m plus was hanging around the crossing!O,birri rocks have some amazing paintings, and I even caught some barras without getting eaten myself. The mossies will carry you away if the crocs don,t. Bill

River crossings like this should never be attempted when on your own always safer to loose a bit of time waiting for another vehicle to arrive and crocs are regulars at this crossing and there are numerous warning signs, hopefully they will take more care next trip across

This is one place where you DON,T walk across to see how deep it is. The whole Kakadoo area is a paradise , and everybody should do it once in a lifetime. Nourlangie is a place that will show you what the aborigines are on about when they say they belong to the land, and not the other way round. One of the most memourable places I have ever been to.I could go on for hours.......Cahills crossing is on the East Alligator R.
